Native Arch Linux on the TF700T

With a lot of help we were able to get native Arch running on my other tablet (Acer Iconia A200). If it can run on that, imagine how smooth it can be on the Infinity.

Remember Arch is NOT Ubuntu. You will have to do many things on your own (your first task is setting up a wireless profile). I will try to assist, but most of the time I will probably just point you to the Arch wiki or forums...

    Special Thanks to rabits!!!
The installer, boot and kernel “stuff” is ALL his work Multiboot Linux on Infinity tf700 v0.8.2.This thread is just a fork of his work...

We will be using Arch Linux Arm(http://archlinuxarm.org/os/ArchLinux...-latest.tar.gz)as the base for the rootfs.

    3/19/13
I have a working rootfs with Xfce4 and basic E17 installed.

    3/21/13
Ruined my only working rootfs... Have to start from scratch.

    3/23/13
Got a new working rootfs, Based on Openbox. Also got most everything working, including wicd, so no more command line wireless tools...
I documented my install in case there is a need to build it again!

    3/25/13
New rootfs is building right now. Many good things....

    WARNING:
You CAN brick your expensive "toy".

And as always remember to do a nandroid backup to an external sdcard or copy it to another device.

    Prerequisite:

    • Unlocked bootlaoder and TWRP 2.4.4 (and suggested CROMI 3.4.4+)

    Working in the current rootfs:

    • Wireless (Need to create your own netcfg profile, See below)
    • X-server (Xfce4 and Openbox installed)
    • Touchscreen
    • On-screen keyboard at login and in X.(xvkbd)
    • Keyboard remapping for missing dock keys (esc, F keys, esc...) See image below.
    • Dock mouse
    • Right click - on hold first finger, touch with second
    • Backlight control
    • Sound!!!
    • Tegra 3 drivers installed
    • Wallpaper by workdowg...
    • batti battery icon

    Not working current rootfs:

    • Keyboard not repeating in console, works fine under X
    • No console key remapping
    • Bluetooth untested (not something I care too much about, probably works)
    • xvkbd keyboard doesn't focus in GDM

    To install:
Note - Do not update xorg-server! It will break X. I found out the hard way...
I am working on getting the updated tegra3 drivers working. That should solve the problem.

    • Download from my website - rootfs-archtf700t-0.7.tar.lzma (355mb) (md5sum -fa8872dc0896969350cf676151729c12) and put in the root of your sdcard
    • Read and follow rabits linux-installer - Multiboot Linux on Infinity tf700 v0.8.2 - chooserootfs-archtf700t-0.7.tar.lzmaduring install
    • This boots to GDM. If you want to boot to console and then startx, you need to get into Openbox or Xfce4 and open a terminal and type - sudo systemctl disable gdm.service
    • xvkbd keyboard does not focus properly in GDM - if you are using without the dock make sure you click focus and then the text box to log in
    • When you do updates for the time being use this – sudo packer -Syyu --ignore xorg-server,xf86-input-evdev
    • Highly suggest changing user and root passwords because here they are:

    User:root Password:root
    User:archtf700t Password:archarm

    Openbox

    Key Remapping

Looks like the newest supported kernel is 3.1.10.

If you want multitasking and multiscreen as well. Check out the thread in XDA Dev about CornerStone by bryce. It is a work in progress but it allows you to split your screen into multiple windows .

Also, rabits has done a wonderful job getting Arch working on the tf700. With the tablet having such a large display it makes them nice, however hardware limits you to the speed of the rom due to all its add ons.

Won't login for me, accepts username and password then just goes to a blank blue screen with the keyboard. Ctrl-alt-t doesn't bring up a terminal.
    What did I do wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

Wow, just saw it, thanks for passing the info. Someone mentioned it over there already but it would be nice if sbdags added it into CROMI. Would be so useful to watch videos/web browse while annotating in a text editor(something I often do)... or just chatting while working on something else, all in the same "desktop" infront of you at the same time.

I looked at ubuntu for the TF700 and it just doesn't seem fully "there" yet, laggy, half-baked, etc. I'm not technical enough to help the advancement of it, but at the same time, I understand that there are also hardware limitations to the Tegra 3. I also looked at chrome OS but as of now, I don't see any ports being developed for the TF700. Seeing Arch is refreshing, though like the OP states, this is Arch, not ubuntu, haha.. lots to tinker with to get it to work "right".

I highly doubt anything in that manner will ever be implemented into Cromi(X) because it would require rewriting the ROM framework, thus not making the ROM stock based anymore.
