Problem - how can I get my root back on 10.4.4.25

    Hi Guys,

I'm fairly new to android, just got myself the infinity for christmas, I have it rooted and everything and none of the previous updates have caused me any issues. This time though it didnt work, I went to install the update and it restarted but when it did it went to a screen with a green android dude laying in its back with a red triangle and exclamation mark, I let it alone for a few minutes and when I went back it had booted and there was a message saying my system was restored.

The problem is that the build version still says 10.4.4.23 but when I go to check for system updates it doesn't find any. How can I install this update? I dowloaded a zip from the asus website but dont actually know how to get that installed.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Chances are the problem has nothing to do with you being rooted. When you upgrade, if you want to keep root for sure, make sure you use voodoo rootkeeper.

The problem you experienced is most likely caused by a corruption in the data package when the device downloaded the firmware. In some cases, while the firmware is not updated because of a mismatch during a package integrity check, the internal record went ahead and recorded the device is updated. That's why it won't download the firmware again.

What you can do is go to the asus official website and download the firmware when it is up. Once it is downloaded, put it in an sdcard and put it in your TF. Reboot and the TF should automatically detect that it's got a firmware and will ask you if you want to update. Just say yes.

    Welcome to the forum!

Take the .zip file and unzip it...It should STILL be a .zip file (it is a zip in a .zip).

    Rename said file to epad_update.zip.

Place this on a microSD formatted for FAT32 and insert it in your tablet. It may give a notification for an update, it may not.

If it does notice the update, tap the notification.

If not, hold VOL DOWN and POWER for about 12-15 seconds until some small white text appears. As soon as you see this, release both buttons and tap VOL UP to enter RCK (recovery) and proceed with the firmware update.

Be sure to use the hardware buttons on the tablet, not the buttons on the keyboard dock if you have it.

Haha, forgot about the unzipping part to get to the real zip file. Asus should really put it in bold red print so people will know. This has been a problem for as long as I can remember.

Does anyone think putting the file in the / directory (top level) of the internal storage may work?

Awesome, thanks guys, copying it to the internal storage root worked, it recognized it straight away and installed it without issue.

On a seperatue note, does anyone know when/if the jellybean 4.2 update is comming? I read many reports from back in november that it was gonna be here 'soon' but still no sign of it.

EDIT: so it seems OTA root keeper has failed me, I used it in the past and it worked fine but after this update I opened it up and there as no option to restore root, how can I get my root back?

Lost root after update, OTA root keeper failed

    Hey again guys,

SO I got the update installed all well and good then I opened up OTA root keepr to restore my root and there is no option to restore it, the white/gray buttons arent even there, I remember the app being centere justified in the screen and now its all left justified so something must have messed it up. The buttons I mean are the "rpotect root" button which after you click it turns into delete bakcup and temp disable root, none of that is there, restore root isnt there, its all messed up.

Does anyone know how I can get my root back? or fix OTA root keeper?
