    TF700T Dock 'backspace' not working

I use my tf to write a lot. My work requires that I write almost daily. I love my tf and have used it daily for two years without any concerns with the keyboard. Since the backspace key is no longer working it makes work tedious at best. With the cost of a new keyboard dock ($130-200 on Amazon) I'm wondering if it would be best to get a bt keyboard instead?

I like the extra battery life, but don't use the extra card & reader slots like I thought I would. I can get a good to very good keyboard for $50-100. Thoughts from anyone would be awesome!

You could try disassembling the dock (as it isn't under warranty) & ensuring there is no dust or debris within it. But other than that I'd concur - a BT keyboard would make perfect sense to me.

Alternatively, sell the whole thing on & look for a deal on either the Android TF103 or TF701 or the Windows T100 maybe...

I'd expect you would get at least $150 for your TF700 with dock. Add the $100 spend for the BT keyboard that you wouldn't be spending and you would be within $50 of a brand new machine complete with new batteries, faster hardware & full warranty... food for thought.

Since you are writing a lot, make sure you like the keyboard before you sink any money in it, not even ten bucks. I find I have to have 1/8" (3mm to the civilized world that has moved on from the archaic US measurement system) between keys in order to touch-type effectively if the keys themselves are flat like most bluetooth keyboards. I am quite fond of the Minisuit BluBoard; it has a slot to hold your tablet upright. I don't know who decided to add the horrible fake-leather wrap to it, but mine was so poorly glued that I had no trouble removing it. It runs about US$40 retail. For my TFs I went for the "Connect Dock" which has two USB ports, making a standard keyboard & mouse setup feasible--use whatever USB keyboard you feel most comfortable with, they are dirt cheap these days although the connect dock is not. Much cheaper than a new keyboard dock though.

One more thought: I own a keyboard dock but hardly ever use it, and I haven't even thought about hacking it. But it just might be possible to map another key, maybe a function key, to be another backspace key. Maybe worth your checking it out?

Good idea! I always remap the useless lock or sleep button to forward delete. It also should work for the "normal" backspace delete.
    You need root for this.
In a file manager with root rights mount your /system as read/write.
Open the following file in a text editor:

    /system/usr/keylayout/asusdec.kl

change line 142: SLEEP to FORWARD_DEL (for forward delete)
or try to change SLEEP to DEL for backspace
    save the file and reboot
    It should work...

Went with a Logitech 004569. Works pretty slick. Good size, has a 'cover' that doubles as a stand. The cover will be nice since my backpack is my means of travel. It should work out well. Thanks for your replies and thoughts.

Next time I dig the keyboard dock out of the closet (I don't think it's gay, I just keep it in the closet) it might just gain a forward-delete key. Thanks droidbound!
