Android lollipop for the tf300 is here

    Hi.
Although I don't own the tf300 myself I just thought I would post this for those who do. KatKiss lollipop is available for your device. I'm running it on my tf201 (modded) and it is stable. Grab it here:
    [ROM][LP 5.0.0_r7] [ KatKiss - Lollipop #011… | Asus Transformer TF300T | XDA Forums

    Enjoy.

I've been running the KitKat version of KatKiss for a few months on my 300. For the most part is has been excellent. My only complaint is an occasional crash, mostly in high-graphics situations like hidden-object puzzles. I suspect this is a hardware deficiency, GPU overheating or some such, but we'll see how it does under Lollipop.

I do like timduru's philosophy as expressed in KatKiss: Keep It Sweet & Simple. (the version I learned was somewhat less polite). Therefore I decided to try this new KatKiss.

Nothing special about flashing the ROM: make sure you do a wipe, flash the ROM, flash SuperSU if you want root (a lot of the optimizations you might want to add as root are already there, so you might not need it), flash GAPPS if you want that, wipe cache & Dalvik, reboot. And have patience; the first boot will take a long time, 5 or 6 minutes if you have GAPPS.

I forgot the first step: Read at least the first couple posts in the thread, it gives you all you need to know. I read the whole thing. Be careful doing that, though, you might learn something, to paraphrase Calvin's tiger Hobbs.

Personally, I have gotten sick and tired of disabling Google apps, so I simply did not install them. Rather refreshing, not having to look at all those Play Store updates. I did still have to disable Google Search to get an ugly rectangular thing off the top-center of my desktop. Now my photo of a Silverleaf Nightshade in bloom looks much better. The handling of wallpapers has improved radically, I think starting in KitKat: no more mandatory cropping or fiddling, choose a pic and click "set wallpaper".

Not having Play Store left me with a dilemma, though. Timduru does not include a file manager in his ROMs; I had an APK for the Amazon AppStore but no way to install it, and of course no way to install ES File Explorer.

One thing about being too sick to get up and do anything physical: it gives you plenty of time to sit at a computer and experiment. I had forgotten completely about the "install" option in adb! So I fired up my Linux/adb live CD ([GUIDE] ADB and Fastboot on Linux live CD), plugged in, and
    #adb install ES.apk
and Boom! Off & running. Note: the Linux command-line does not tolerate spaces in filenames, so I had to rename the .apk I had on hand. Also note that in Linux ES.apk is NOT the same as es.apk.

Some of you knew I'd sneak that link in, right?

@droidbound, as an aside, I DID THIS THROUGH A USB3 PORT. Is it possible the newer kernel has overcome the USB3 limitations with adb and fastboot? Do you have hardware that could help test this? Obviously I will be fooling with it but I only have the one "modern" machine set up, might just be a fluke. Also obviously, anyone else who cares to test this idea is more than welcome.

So on to actually using the tablet with this ROM. So far, and this is less than 24 hours, not a single glitch. From the way the browser responds, it pretty much has to be running browser2ram or android-browser-cached. I think it loads a webpage faster than my big desktop with a wired connection. Download speeds are only limited by my poor internet connection (ground-based radio, only a half-step up from satellite). I'm playing a point-and-click adventure called Alice Trapped in Wonderland (told you I had time on my hands) and have had no problems. What I intend to do at some point is to play Enigmatis 2 again, so I can compare its responsiveness under the different ROMs. It liked KatKiss-KK under f2fs, we'll see what happens.

At some point I will test the keyboard dock, also, if no-one beats me to it. Timduru claims full function-key support, and some added bells & whistles.

So as @mediadriven says above: Enjoy.

@kevin. Have you looked into Minimal Gapps yet? I use that package on my phone since it essentially only installs the play store and the related Google Play services packages.

Also I've never had trouble using USB 3 to connect through adb. Although I purchased my current laptop after my tf300 bit the dust so I only use adb with my Nexus 4.
*I apologize for any spelng mistakes. I frequently answer questions on my phone. The content is (usually) good, but the words may not be intelligible. If you cant understand my post... check back later or call me out on it.

No, timduru promises a minimal GAPPS specifically for this ROM, but I'm not sure I'll even bother. Google's add-ons are so invasive! And I find I'm getting nearly all my apps from Amazon anyway.

I think this is the only time I've tried to connect adb through USB3, read too many horror stories. But the front-panel USB2 ports on this box are persnickety, and it was just too much work to look behind it. So it's a hit-and-miss thing? If so it'll need a lot more testing, and it probably won't get it. Hope nobody has problems with it!

One thing I forgot to mention: wallpapers seem to have a vignette effect at the top and bottom, presumably so notifications etc. can be more easily read against a possibly bright background. Interesting looking.

I do not have any first hand experience with fastboot and USB 3.0. My PCs are way too old

I have encountered problems with fastboot over 3.0 helping users and have read it a couple of times on XDA.
Fastboot mind you. Never heard about trouble with adb. Others don't have any problems with it....

It's more like: If you cannot get a connection although you did everything right, it could be the USB port, it could be 3.0.... one possibility among many why fastboot ain't working.
I'm not saying it does not work. I'm saying fastboot over USB 3.0 seems to be flaky...sometimes...maybe...could be only on Tuesdays.... with rain..... after 4 PM :silly:

Haven't been playing with my LP rom much. Whenever I need to get something done I grab my TF701. It's so much faster!
I do like the new interface but these small delays opening apps, rendering pages, switching apps just drive me bonkers. I know, that's not the rom, the 700 is just crippled by it's slow emmc and this rom is pre-release, lots of tweaking needs to be done.
Maybe I try it with data2sd - that would be a project for tonight

Edit: Boy! Am I glad I did this. OMNI 5.0 homemade with data2sd rivals the TF701 in smooooothness. Night and day!

Looks like that one will remain in limbo. We'd have to test on enough different machines with USB3 ports to get a statistically significant sample, so by most standards at least 20. I don't think there is that much interest.

Don't you realize that it's a Western tradition to mortgage the house and hock the wife's jewelry to own the latest, biggest, baddest computer? Do you not realize how many Chinese jobs depend on us for that? Seriously, I once put together a mega-machine, absolutely ridiculous specs, core I7@3.8, (gulp)32GB RAM, SSD, put it all in a clear case to show off. Total waste. It was only marginally faster than my Pentium dual-core at its best, and it now will not boot. I have a new mobo for it but I've kind of lost interest.

Gotta look into OMNI for my 700, thanks!
