The chances are it's just a bad mic. Sometimes people stick a paper clip in the hole thinking it's a reset button. But if you have a custom ROM on the tablet it might be firmware, the mic's chipset driver missing or some such. Is the tablet still stock? Is it unlocked, custom recovery, what? Please give with any/all details about the tablet and its history and condition.

Hi Kevin. Thanks for responding. The tablet is stock as can be. Using 4.2 Jelly Bean. Not unlocked. Nothing custom. The paper clip in the mic trick is entirely possible. But i can swear it was working more recently. Tablet is like new and never abused. Should i attempt to reload the driver? Thanks again.

Without at least root privileges, you couldn't mess with the driver(s) even if it was a good idea. You might try reinstalling (or updating?) the stock firmware; there's a howto in the Master Help Guide linked in my sig. If there's a software issue that will fix it. But be advised that may wipe all your data, make sure you have everything backed up.

I still advise that a custom ROM is the way to go, even if it doesn't fix the mic. The advances in software in the last couple years have done wonders for my 300.
