Locked out!

I apologize if there is a similar thread (I have searched for one). I stupidly set a passcode on accident (with the dots, where you have to remember the pattern you set). I couldn't get it in 30 tries and can't try anymore. It now says that I have to login with google account, but it won't let me. It doesn't even seem to send the password before it tells me that my password is invalid. I have also tried restoring it to factory settings but I hold down the volume, then power key, get the screen with the writing, press the volume up key and it looks like it's doing it until I see this picture and then I get the login page again.

So frustrating! Please, please, please help if you can! Thank you.

Ok, don't press the VOL UP. This enters recovery to try to flash new firmware.

When you see the white text, wait til the next screen and tap VOL DOWN to select WIPE.

Then hit VOL UP to wipe, VOL UP again to confirm.

Also, you need WiFi on and an active Internet connection to use the Google account to unlock.

I tried doing the reset the other way and it didn't work. Is there any way to connect it to a wireless network while it's locked? Thank you so much for the help, by the way!

If you have a dock you may be able to use the function key to turn WiFi on, maybe.
