    Welcome to the forum

Sadly JAVA is not supported on Android. JavaSCRIPT works, but JAVA is a no go, I'm afraid.

Android has never been able to run Java. As far as Flash is concerned, there is no reason why you shouldn't have it & the link in my signature explains just how & where to get it (from Adobe)

Another tablet that does not use Java goes by the name "ipad". It also does not support flash. This makes it "disfunctional" by npad's standards.

Since all the sites I visit that were developed with Java work fine, which ones do you visit that don't? Inquiring minds want to know.

Sorry, this isn't actually true. Most Android apps are, after all, written in Java. It is true that web sites using Java applets (are there any of those left? it's 2013, people) won't work, as the virtual machines are different (the compiled Java code is modified at build time to run in the Android virtual machine).

What Moose says is correct, but ... one needs to differentiate.
"While most Android applications are written in Java, there is no Java Virtual Machine in the platform and Java byte code is not executed. Java classes are compiled into Dalvik executables and run on the Dalvik virtual machine. Dalvik is a specialized virtual machine designed specifically for Android and optimized for battery-powered mobile devices with limited memory and CPU. J2ME support can be provided via third-party-applications."

While Android apps are written in Java, they are not run on a Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Android uses a different virtual machine called Dalvik. And since Android doesn't have a JVM, Java applets won't run on an Android device.
