black screen but works with hdmi

I've seen hints of the problem I am having in other posts on the forums, but I have had no luck so far with a fix.
My tablet has been working very well until today when the screen went dark. I could see the back light flicker on when the power button was applied and the notification sound as the OS was chugging along, but no display. Since I recognized that the OS was up and running, I plugged in the HDMI port. I am able to see the display and in fact interact with the touch screen to navigate. I've rebooted a couple times with no success.

Has anyone had a similar problem? The tf300 is about 1 month old at this point and I am facing minor regret for staying away from apple. Thanks,
    Nate

Looks as if your backlight went out. If you can't take it back to your retailer I'm afraid you'll need to RMA it to ASUS.
Make sure that if you are doing the RMA you call them an not email they are so sloooooooooooooooow with email.

Thanks for the response. I do think I will have to resort to an RMA from the sound of it, though I can see the backlight.

If you can see the back light.
Before you do that make sure to do a cold/hard reset, it will not affect your data or apps

    Remove power cord
Hold power until TF shuts down.
Hold vol down and power until you see white lettering in top left release both and let the TF boot up.
Also check the brightness slider to make sure it didn't get turned all the way down.

If you decide to send it back before you do that backup your apps and data with the ASUS back up program
and do a factory reset, and see if that solves your problem. If this does not help no big deal because you would want to do this before sending it back anyway to protect any sensitive information.

So I tried what you suggested and did a hard reset. It didn't appear to work but I guided it through the process on my hdmi connection. After completion, I didn't see a solution. My screen was still black, with only the backlight visible. I closed the tablet on my keyboard, unplugged the hdmi, and gave it a solid hit on its back. When I opened it back up, it worked. I am a little nervous that this problem will come back given that it may be mechanical. Would you suggest a call to ASUS to resolve?

I would make sure to keep your apps backed up so if it happens again you can send it in without losing any data.

It is probably a lose cable or an issue with a pogo pin. It may or may not come back...
