New pad will not power on -- dead?

I've taken delivery of a TF300T. I didn't purchase the keyboard as I want to use it only as a "touch" tablet while travelling, for news and other reading, social media etc.
I've charged it for 6 hours with the wall adapter + USB cable, and all that time the green light was on beside the power button. When I plug the cable out then back in I hear a single loud tone.

OK so I decided to turn it on by pressing the power button for 2 seconds and nothing happens except for a very faint change in luminosity of the screen, a low amplitude lightening of the blackness. If I press the power button for longer periods the same thing happens.

Google told me about "cold boot" by holding down both the power button and the "volume down" button simultaneously for 10 seconds. That causes a few low amplitude flashes of grayness on the screen then nothing.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Welcome swerdna

You did everything right It looks like you have a DOA tablet which needs replacing by your retailer. How disappointing for you

Get in touch with your retailer & get it returned/replaced. I hope you get better luck with the next one.

PLEASE Search for existing threads before posting a new one. Thanks.

Your opinion matters. But should you disagree - please try not to be disagreeable
