Help requested in Settings Option 'Backup & Reset page? How do you Backup?

    Hi all,

I'm scratching my head figuring out how to create a backup, not with the Asus App Backup app, but a settings backup feature that is listed in the 'Settings' area.

    Go into 'Settings'

    Scroll to 'Backup & Reset'

In that section the first option is: 'Backup my data' the description underneath it is: Backup settings, wifi data and passwords to Google servers

The second option is: 'Backup Account' to set the Google account to backup these settings to.

The third option is to 'Automatic Restore' when restoring automatically restore data and settings. You can check the box to accomplish this automatically or not.

The last option on this page is to do a 'Factory Reset'

    So here is my question:

How do you trigger this kind of backup to happen? And when does it happen.

Where would I find these backed up settings in my Google account online?

Also, in settings again, in the Developer Options:

There is a item labeled 'Desktop Backup Password'.

Its nice that you can set a Backup Password for when you Backup the Desktop, but how do you backup the Desktop? What app do you use?

    Thanks

    Rob

I believe it backups to google, not the apps but just what apps you got from the google playstore and re-downloads them and other settings, Calender Etc. when I got my 300 and signed in to google it loaded my gmail and calender and location info plus in the playstore it was set to install the apps I got on a samsung android music player

Apps are automatically backed up to your account, but not the data associated with the apps.

It is best to use the App Backup app to back up the data associated so that if you do a factory reset you do not lose your progress in Angry Birds or Where's My Water.

You will need to back up documents, photos, music, movies, etc. separately as well as they are not backed up anywhere automatically.

And if you use the App Backup app make certain you have a copy on your SD Card or on your computer as a data wipe will kill that backup too.

And Rob, if you use this backup service from Google, remember you are "giving" them lots of private information, voluntarily...
