Tf300t tablet and dock won't charge or boot.

About 6 months ago my Asus tf300t tablet was charging on my keyboard overnight. I woke up in the morning tried turning on my tablet and nothing would happen. The charging lights were off the tablet would not boot. After hard reset reboots and trying to reset using guides on the net it would not work. the tablet was sent into asus. They told me the motherboard was bad. I had them ship it back to me because I can do that kind of work. I replaced the battery and the motherboard at the same time because the tablet was about 4-5 years old. After replacing the battery and the motherboard it booted right up, charged properly, and everything worked great. Last night I put the tablet on the docking station keyboard to charge overnight. When I woke up this morning the exact same thing happened. No charging lights are on, could not get the tablet to boot up on the docking station or disconnected from it. Has anyone heard of anything out there where the motherboard on the tablet was destroyed because the docking station battery was bad or something was wrong with the docking station?

Haven't heard specifically of that problem. But if the dock battery took a dump it's conceivable that it could drain the tablet battery to nothing also. Try hooking the tablet up to a PC port for a day or two (just to belabor the obvious: leave the PC on for that time), then connect the charger to the tablet directly. If that works, I'd look for a refurb dock.

Tried charging pad and dock with computer over night, separately. Did not work. I'm wondering if the dock fried the motherboard, again.

Overnight may not do it. Let's just concentrate on the tablet, K.I.S.S. for now, and give it a couple days. Then see if the tablet will take off and charge with the regular Asus charger.

I wouldn't even consider replacing the mobo again, a 300 is just not worth it.

There are at least 5 TF300 motherboards under $40 on Ebay. One is $19.99. So I think it may be worth it. In 5 years on this forum I have never heard of a motherboard being destroyed or made unusable by the devices lack of powering up. There is a possibility one or both of the batteries have reached the end of their lifespan -- but then my TF30O tablet battery still gives me approx. 7 hours after 3 years of daily use. The dock battery is another story though. I bought this tab & battery used and this particular dock battery seems to run out of juice in about 2 hours...half of it's new state. Methinks someone kept it plugged into AC much of the time. Doing that can affect longevity...

As Kevin said, try concentrating on the tablet itself first. Replacement batteries are also fairly reasonable. Good luck...

I didn't realize mobos were available that cheap, but then I don't do Ebay. I'd also have to wonder just what you might be buying for $20, but then that's always true. Amazon lists batteries from about $55 on up, which I'd consider marginal; if and when my 300 battery dies, I'll have to think long and hard about whether I want to sink that in it. My 300 owes nobody nothing; it's been rode hard and put away wet, I lost count of how many times I've bricked it, I've over-discharged the battery a couple times, I might just put it to a well-deserved rest. All I can find for inexpensive mobos on Amazon are used ones for about the price of a new battery or new for $175 up. On the same page they list a new 700t for $220! They also list a new 300TL for $340--is somebody smoking something they shouldn't be?

Ebay does have some options regarding getting what is advertised. I have bought and sold on Ebay for several years. One thing I had in mind was the fact the OP also has the dock, so rather than turf both parts of the unit and buying something else, there's a chance reinstalling the firmware, charging as per your suggestion Kevin or going the replacement route (Mobo, batteries) may actually be cheaper than an entirely new unit. I see no real need to retire my trusty TF300.

As for what folks are smoking on Amazon, I will leave that to your imagination. Right now you can get two 128GB Microsd cards for $89 on Ebay. Search "2-pack 128Gb" They are Sandisk Class 10.

Yes, if you can get good parts that cheap, and as you say the OP has already demonstrated his ability to install them, that might be the way to go. Although let's face it the 300 is getting pretty long in the tooth. On the other hand the development for this outdated tab is nothing short of fantastic, largely thanks to @timduru over at XDA. He now has a Marshmallow ROM released for it!

So as usual it's a matter of personal preference. But I would certainly try the trickle-charge thing first, as it costs next to nothing in man-hours or money. And I certainly wouldn't put hundreds of dollars in a 300!

As far as Ebay goes, my one-and-only experience with them was quite negative. Statistically meaningless, I know, and on top of that it was over a decade ago, when they were still working out bugs. But I've been quite happy without them for all that time, so I probably won't do anything about it.

Afterthought: with a bit of creative shimming, a TF700 will work in a 300 dock. They are functionally identical, but the 700's case is a bit thinner. I tried the setup with a draftsman's ruler, one of those things with a raised grip in the center, and it worked. I don't use a dock enough to make it worthwhile to rig something less awkward and more permanent but it doesn't look too hard to do. So a 700 is another viable option, and it's a faster machine and less prone to breakage.

That is fantastic. If he can get everything to work wth a Marshmallow ROM that is really something. As for being outdated, I still have my Sansui Quadraphonic Amp from 1975. And I bought another last year. And some Quad records. But I digress...

Neither would I - I draw the line at $100 bucks for one-time only repair/replacement.

That is very good to know. I was wondering if the TF700 might work. As you say, it's thinner so a shim is the ticket. Thanks for the tip.

How are we supposed to get into a good argument if we keep agreeing? I don't have quad, but I do have three seventies-vintage stereos (one Marantz and one Allied and one Pioneer) and an eighties Yamaha, all in regular use. I'm sure some would disagree, but they simply sound better than anything you can buy today, although the Marantz is a bit muddy (they always were). Its preamp is excellent, though, good for digitizing vinyl.

But to get back on topic, yes, if we can't save the 300 in question (or your personal one), a 700 can be made to work in a 300 dock. I found that somewhere on this forum, and then tried it myself.
