Be wary of those budget tablets. Clock speed isn't everything. Those 1.5ghz dual core chips are probably much less efficient and powerful than even 2 of the tf300s 4 cores (even though they have lower clock speed) the quality of components will never match up.

After analyzing the situation from a developer's point of view I can understand why it would be hard to push more updates.

    1. Nvidia needs to push out new drivers for their chips. They did it reluctantly with the nexus 7 which was then ported over to the tf300.

    2. Coding is hard. While android can be built easily and is open source, the code for the keyboard dock and other proprietary features is a hack. It is not baked in to android. As you change the operating system it becomes increasingly difficult to keep the dock functionality the same.

    3. Its not economical. Remember when Asus was good updates? Then they started producing more tablets per year than you can name. Asus is a smaller company than Samsung. They probably have only a handful of really good developers working for them. Those people need to work on updates to the most recent and upcoming products before they even touch older devices. There isn't enough time to do a good job an it makes more sense to focus on newer stuff. (The programming department is likely thinking about improving future products not keeping a good brand image)

Lastly I will admit that the one flaw with the transformers that is undeniably Asus' fault is the cheap nand memory which went into their premium tablets. That is simply inexcusable and I believe they have learned from that mistake.

Tmc, what are you talking about multitasking?

Android has had it for years. Longer then apple.

Do you mean multi window where you can actually take advantage of multiple apps concurrently running? Don't look at android on Asus.

Look at manufacturers that create advanced ui such as samsung or LG. Samsung really knows what they are doing.

No, it's not easy. It WAS, in the past, the price of maintaining a reputation and therefore a long-term repeat-customer base. Since we are no longer loyal to quality, just to lowest cost, we bear at least part of the blame for deteriorating quality of products and customer service. Expect more of the same in the future!

    Hi.

I am running Android version 4.0.3 and can't figure out how to upgrade the firmware. I have tried the System Firmware Updater but it says that there is no update for my device. I went to the Asus download site and all the updates are for 4.1 and 4.2. Is there anything I can do?

    Thanks.

Thanks, droidbound. In the manual, it says to select the correct SKU. On the Asus web site there are several with my SKU, but none of them are for my Android version (4.0.3). These are the ones I have found:

Version US_V10.6.1.27.5: ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T Firmware: V10.6.1.27.5 Only for US SKU (Android 4.2)
Version US_V10.6.1.27.1: ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T Firmware: V10.6.1.27.1 Only for US SKU (Android 4.2)
Version US_V10.6.1.15.3: ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T Firmware: V10.6.1.15.3 Only for US SKU (Android 4.2)
Version US_V10.6.1.8: ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T Firmware: V10.6.1.8 Only for US SKU (Android 4.2)

Which one(s) do I use? My full build info is: IML74K.US_epad-9.4.3.30-20120604, my Android version 4.0.3.

Thanks for any help with this...

    Good question.
The SKU refers to the region the firmware was meant for. The rest denotes the firmware version that you will be updating to (not coming from.) obviously ASUS doesn't want users flashing old 4.0.3 firmware so they have removed them. All you need to do is choose the latest version available for your SKU and install that.
