UPdate on Thread Janner43 Master Help Guide.

I just purchased a brand new TF300, Staples online still has new ones for sale online.

Is Janner32 Master Help Guide 3 Factory Reset and Cold Boot needed on a brand new unit?

I received my unit last night and put it on the charger. When I get home I am going to start setting up things. I know it will notify me of an update for 4.2 (since its new, it will come with Ice Cream). When I update to 4.2 on my brand new unit, do I then need to do the 3 factory resets and the cold reboot before doing anything on the unit?

    Please advice

Just saw your thread, so this is what I suggest...
If you have the dock, do it all with the dock & tablet connected...

    1. Charge the device for 8 hours & until the green light is showing
    2. Connect to wifi
    3. Get the firmware update & apply it
    4. Following the firmware installation, go to settings & do a Factory Reset. One will be just fine.
    5. Connect to wifi, enter your Google account details & install the apps you want on your new device.
    6. When complete, do a Cold Boot & away you go...

If you wanted to be hyper careful, then you could install apps 3-5 at a time & cold boot between each batch. But personally, I wouldn't bother with that level of detail if it was my device I was setting up.

All the best & I hope you enjoy your new device

    PS
I should just say that the Master Help Guide is the work of Dr Mighty Snake - I and a good few others have contributed FAQs & Guides that are listed in it, but the Doc should take the credit for the work he put into setting up the Master Help Guide itself.

Janner32 was replaced by a succession of models - we are now on #43.

Yes, those recommendations have been made, regarding the Booting and Resets. Some Moderators swear by 'em. Be sure to do any updates with a good charge on your tablet and with the tablet docked should you also have the keyboard.

edit: Clever chap that Janner - Ninja'd me. Musta saw his name mentioned !

Ah yes, I remember Janners 1 through 42... That's the "Clone Wars" for ya!

But as the old poet said..."If at first you don't succeed, try, try again...

    Thank you everyone

I do not have the keyboard dock. So, do everything you mentioned Janner43 even though I do not have the keyboard dock? That should be the way to set it up as a first timer once I update to 4.2?

Yes, that's right The Factory Reset following the firmware update will give you the best foundation for using your tablet going forward.

Well, I turned on my Asus TF300 for the first time last night when I got home from work. Turned on the WIFI and the Firmware update came up. I downloaded it and I thought it was going to go straight from 4.0 to 4.2, but no, it went from 4.0 to 4.1.1, so I did a hard reset. When the machine came back up, another firmware notifcation came up. I downloaded it and this time it went from 4.1.1 to the latest (for the TF300) 4.2, I then did a second hard reset.

After that, I downloaded the apps I wanted, then I did a cold boot. Unfortunately it was then time for bed. I will try out the TF300 when I get home. Hopefully everything went smoothly. For the very little time I played with it, it seemed snappy with no problems (big knock on wood). But, we shall see when I really test it out tonight.
