I started a thread here back in June entitle 'Cracked Screen.' I had the mysterious spontaneous crack issue, sent it to ASUS, and was told it would cost $218+ shipping as it was user abuse. My daughter offered to pay for the repair if she could keep the tablet, so I sent them a payment authorization with a note that said I was authorizing the payment under protest. Once they received my 'protest note' they agreed to send me a new one if I would send in the keyboard for them to analyze with my tablet.
They shipped the replacement tablet when they got the shipping confirmation for the dock coming back to them. Once they received the dock they sent me a replacement dock. So they didn't charge me and I'm whole (probably with a refurb, but don't care about that). Or I should say, my daughter scored a tablet cheap.
Customer service was a nightmare (hours of hold time, many promised deadlines missed, six weeks in limbo, many correspondences never acknowledged), and I've explained to my daughter that she should only seat the tablet directly into the dock and not operate the hinge like a laptop, and we'll keep our fingers crossed.
TL;DR: Based on design issues and lousy customer service, I recommend that you buy something else.

If this is an issue should I go back to the store where I purchased my TF300 and buy their insurance plan?

I think this problem only occurs if you are not careful in how you open & close the tablet & keyboard.
I've seen people open & close laptops in a way that frightens me.
I know accidents happen to the best of us but if you take reasonable care you should be ok.
Anything but Apple
Regards.
Tony.

I agree. I don't believe for one second that standard usage of this combo is in any way even remotely dangerous.
OPENING the tablet beyond its tolerance: I could see that maybe causing a stress fracture. Don't do that.

Ah, I had the same concern until it never cracked.
As mentioned. Treat it right and it'll treat you right.
Posted with my Asus TF300T pad with Jelly Bean 4.2.1
Working great and having a blast!
