Cracked Screen

Had my 300 for a little over a month and was really enjoying it; I especially liked the added functionality that came with the keyboard/dock (SD Card reader, ridiculous battery life, USB support, ease of data entry).

But then I discovered the screen cracked on it one morning. It was fine when I put it down, but it was in the dock, and I think that was the problem.

A little research reveals that the plastic device that holds the tablet in the dock puts a great deal of pressure on the glass. Try moving the clip manually without the tablet in and you'll see what I'm talking about.

At any rate, I'm sending it in to the service center (at my expense) to see if they will replace it under warranty. I'm keeping my fingers crossed; this is clearly a product design issue.

In the meantime, be extremely cautious when your 300 is in the dock. Don't 'close' it like you would a laptop; just remove the tablet. You could be saving yourself some grief!

Sent the tablet in at my expense. USPS confirmed delivery at 12:02pm today; as of 10:28 the link provided by our ASUS RMA email indicated that it hadn't been received. I called the service center and they determined that they had in fact received the tablet, and informed me that it will be 10-14 business days until I get my response.

I'm really hoping that they're just under-promising so they can over-perform with that timeframe quote. I'll probably call again in a couple of days if I haven't heard anything. So far, I'm a little disappointed in their customer service, but I'm willing to let this play out a little before I get upset.

Has anyone else dealt with the cracked screen? How was the experience?

Im dealing with a cracked screen as well. But for me it was my fault. So the cost is going to be 100% on me. Im in contact with Best Buy corporate as well trying to get this all sorted out. Long story, anyway they received it on the 7th, it went right into "repairing" status, then 2 days ago it changed status, but I still havent heard from them at all since the original phone call to them. So based on my experience so far Id say that the time frame they gave you is accurate. Instead of waiting I decided to just go buy another, and finally got a good one. Ill most likely just have them send the broken one back, and have extra parts, or wait until I can afford the repair. But based on what I have read from others the repair cost will probably be close to, or even exceed the cost of a new one. So Im not sure whats going to happen.

Finally got an email back from Asus about my RMA. Its actually less than I expected, but still more than I can afford right now. So Ill probably just have them send it back broke until I can afford it. Heres the breakdown of the costs.

You may wish to look into SquareTrade. I just purchased my TF300 and purchased a protection program from them. I hope I don't have to put it to the test, but it looks good on paper, and the price is pretty reasonable (depending on if you sign up for it from them, through Amazon, etc.).

Already have 3 warranties with squaretrade. My tv, laptop, and my galaxy tab 7.7, and ill be getting one for my non broken tf300 soon. Unfortunately I broke the other one before I bought any warranty.

No I haven't had to use them yet, but based on reviews I heard they are really good. They usually end up sending you a check rather than repairing.

Really? I didn't know that. Do they keep the broken item? Probably too much to ask to have the broken one returned to you for parts and use the check to buy a new one.
