Do I need root to use face unlock on my TF300?

It works on my Galaxy Nexus (stock) and so I wanted to see if the TF300 had it and it does but it's greyed out. Apparently this feature was added in the .29 update but is not enabled, at least on my device. I'm probably missing something simple... thought I'd ask.

Ummm, this should have been in the help forum... but I'm a dweeb so it's here!

I missed it the first time I tried activating it. You need to go into settings and enter your current security pass (pin or pattern, etc). Then you should be able to set the face unlock. You do not need to be rooted.

FYI - I am going to disable mine once again because 99% of the time I end up having to use my PIN anyway. The face unlock doesn't seem to like the lighting, or position of my face so it rarely works. Too much trouble in my opinion.

Thanks! It works fairly well on my Galaxy but I do question it from a security standpoint. For example, will a printed photo work to unlock?

Well, just tried it and it is still greyed out. Says disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage.

Also, I have read that if you have an exchange account or a VPN account, you will have to remove them to enable face unlock.

Basically, to enable it the device has to become unsecured for a short period of time while you set it up.

Exchange and VPN accounts require security at all times with ICS. After you get the face unlock, I think you should be able to add the Exchange and/or VPN.

I have not tried a printed picture, but a 0.3 MP photo taken with the front facing cam of my iP*one 4 will unlock the device every time (even on the little 3.5" screen). I am sure a decent quality printed photo will do the same.

Thanks! Makes sense, and I do have VPN and Exchange. Not worth removing them. And come to think of it, I did enable face on my Galaxy before setting up Exchange on it.

    Thought so. Thanks again.

I agree, that is my 1.28760p, at least at today's exchange rates.

...didn't a poor guy in Florida just root his face? I wouldn't try it.
