    Question Updating an old TF300t

    Hi,

We have one that has lived almost it's entire life locked in a cupboard (someone lost the key - don't ask...), and I was wondering about updating it to a later versions of firmware and Android.

It has Android 4.0.3, and Kernel 2.6.93.4

I looked on the ASUS support site and it looks like it pre-dates all the available updates.

I tried the System Firmware Update option, and it keeps failing to download the update it says is available.

Now I'm a simple soul, so can anyone give me instructions on how to upgrade - if actually possible (in words that my simple brain can understand - I come from the world of Windows)

    Many thanks

Also look at the Master Help Guide linked in both @janner43's sig and mine. Anything that isn't clear we'll try to help out with.

It looks like all these instructions require to start from versions later than the bootloader, kernel and Android version already installed on my pad, and those versions available on the ASUS site are all for later versions as well.

Do I assume it is past updating?

    Cheers

Absolutely not. What it means is that you will have to do your homework. There is, in that aforementioned Master Help Guide, a procedure to update to the latest Asus firmware whether the tablet feels like it or no. There will be some hours involved but it can be updated to a Nougat ROM (the latest stable available) and it will run much, much better than Asus ever dreamed it could. But it will be up to you to put in the sweat equity.

You could also just download the newest official firmware from the Asus site for your device and follow the guide to manually update your firmware.
