Hi. Are you using up most of your storage space? My TF300 slowed down when I had less than approx. 6 GB of space left on the 32 GB internal storage. What apps are you running that run in the background? Do your apps update automatically ? Set the play store to manually update. See if the Greenify app can hibernate apps that auto-start when you boot up. I'm sure you'll get some good advice from other members of the forum.

Well, yes, Swipe's advice is pretty good, except that with KatKiss you won't find a bunch of apps starting up and running in the background for no apparent reason. Unless, of course, you put them there. The dev (timduru) is very aware that this will slow the machine down. As well as turning off auto update in Play Store, turn off sync in your browser. Use a lightweight, fast browser, not one of the big monster brand-names like Chrome or Firefox; Maybe Dolphin or Boat?

Where does this performance lag occur, anyway? while browsing the web, playing a game, editing videos (probably not recommended on any Droid)? Wi-fi connections can be critical for any mobile computer. Well, OK, for any computer, depending on what you're doing and how. Any time you use Web apps, for instance, you'd better have a good fast internet connection.

A second-best ROM for the TF300? probably an older version of Kat Kiss. But as usual, my advice is to cruise over to XDA's TF300 section, look in the ROMs subsection, download and try out any that sound promising. I recommend a full format of /data before flashing any new ROM; after that, follow the installation instructions for that particular ROM, it's usually on the first or second page. Or thereabouts. Usually it's flash ROM, flash GApps, flash SuperSU, wipe cache & Dalvik, reboot and wait 5-15 minutes for a good stable first boot. If you don't like the new ROM, simply flash the Nandroid backup you made before you changed, keeping in mind that you might need to change the filesystem on /data again.

Replying to this dated thread again, hopefully people are still around to help...

So I have rooted my TF300T, installed katkiss ROM,

I'm now trying to pair my sony dualshock3 ps3 controller to the TF300T

I am using this app from the google play store, dualshock3 compatability checker,

But when I run it, it throws out an error, ""Could not start driver. Check that your device is rooted"

So either this app is not compatible with my TF300T and katkiss... Or my device is not rooted?

When I boot the TF300T, i get a "this device is unlocked" message on the top right, and I've loaded the custom TWRP and flashed latest katkiss at some point, so I'm assuming my device IS unlocked, right?

Do you have Super SU installed in your devices? That is the app that grants root permissions to other apps.

Check the katkIss XDA page. They should have some instructions for how to enable root. Either by flashing a package or enabling a settings options.

Thanks for much for fast reply... Looking at my system closer, I suppose I did not flash SuperSU when I unlocked the device, installed TWRP recovery, and flashed KatKiss.

I just loaded into TWRP, and flashed SuperSU to the tablet...

    Let's see whats next...

    EDIT:

SuperSU flash worked great, got me root access and PS3 controller paired perfect!

On another note... I seem to be experiencing some very poor WIFI performance... I've noticed my TF300T/Katkiss doing this before on many different wireless networks... the Wifi status will keep changing from "Connected" to "Waiting for network" or "No internet access" but it fluctuates in and out very quickly, so it doesn't require me to cycle or refresh the Wifi settings, it's stabilizes itself, but very annoying WIFI signal issue here...

Anyone else experience this before? Wondering if this is TF300T related, or Katkiss issue...

I have a shadow of that problem on my 300, not enough to be worried about. My first suggestion would be to reboot your router & modem, it's amazing how often that fixes this sort of thing, for no apparent reason. Next would be to install the K.A.T. app, from the same dev (@timduru) over at XDA. No flashing required, just make sure "unknown sources" is enabled (should be by default in KatKiss) and install the app. Let us know how you get on!

    Hello,
I just joined the forum after seeing it was still be monitored (note,I am not the person two posts above).
Very glad to see droidbound is still watching!! I have read this full thread and others here and on the xda site but am a little confused by TWRP versions and was hoping someone could help.

    I have an unrooted TF300T JB 4.2.1, build 10.6.1.27.5 Kernal 3.1.10
I have successfully unlocked the bootloader and have been able to flash various twrp recovery versions to it from my Win XP machine using fastboot commands. My current goal is to create a nandroid backup before trying the katkiss 5.1 rom.
When I try to make the backup from within twrp (with a 16Gb microSD installed in tablet - no kb docked), the back screen shows only 1 partition to select and it is checked (System (0MB)) which seems odd. Anyway, when I attempt the backup,I get a slew of messages with a Failed banner.
    The log starts out:
E:Unable to find partition size for '/misc'
which is repeated for staging, data, recovery, boot
then unable to mount'/cache', can't open destination log file, unable to set emmc bootloader message and several other lines.

I get similar results ith both twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-JB.blob and twrp-2.6.3.0-tf300t-JB.blob twerp versions and I am very confused by which version I should be using.
From the twrp site, the latest is twrp-3.2.3-0-tf300t.img (which I have not tried yet) as I was concerned about backward compatibility due to info presented on page 12 of this thread:
"Better to ask questions until you're clear than trying to recover from a brick. Keep asking
If you read the first 3 posts again carefully, gtanner spelled it out quite clearly (but I know how overwhelming all this info can be at first - don't feel bad).
TWRP 2.5.0.0 is compatible with JB roms but not KitKat based roms.
The modified TWRP 2.7.01 is compatible only with KitKat roms. (Kitkat ROMs are only compatible with TWRP versions 2.7 or later)
    "Being compatible" meaning here:
You cannot flash a KitKat rom with TWRP 2.5.0.0 and you cannot flash a JB rom with TWRP 2.7.01.

The recovery is like a mini-OS, lives on it's own partition and is completely independent of what rom you have installed on /system. So having an incompatible combination (JB rom +2.7.01 or KK rom +2.5.0.0) installed is ok. BUT: You should not act upon the rom with the incompatible recovery - actions like backup, restore, wipe come to mind.

So, if you have a JB rom installed and want to move to a KitKat rom, you do your nandroid in 2.5.0.0.
Then do a Factory Wipe in 2.5.0.0 to clear your cache and data partitions.
Then you fastboot flash TWRP 2.7.01.
Then reboot because the flash actually puts the twrp blob on the staging partition and it gets written to the recovery partition during the next boot.
Then you boot into TWRP 2.7.01 again and flash the KK rom.
Hope this sheds some light - gives some background."

Are the latest twrp versions compatible with all previous ios's including 4.2.1? (From reading the threads it appears something odd happened with the JB evolution splitting the twrp versions to JB and 4.2 specific flavors. The spit was dropped several twrp versions later.

Also,I dont know if it matters, but I installed the TWRP app from the play store (which I then never really tried as I scared by the incompat text posted above. It might still be installed but once I got fastboot working, I manually selected and flashed twrps with fastboot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated before I take my best guess and try the very latest twrp.
Thank you very much in advance!

First of all: Congrats on your progress - good job.
I would not call this forum "monitored" - it is pretty much dead in fact - but I do still get notifications as you can see

Now to your problem why you cannot make a nandroid backup: I have no idea!
It is very strange indeed and since you have been doing so well I hesitate to point to the most likely culprit: You!
Seriously, typically the reason behind inexplicable problems is user error.
TWRP 2.5 should work fine with a JB rom. Can you get some pics what the screen shows when you boot into TWRP and go to Backup?
Also check what it shows under Mount.

But more importantly: Why the heck do you want to make a nandroid of this worthless software in the first place?
I can guarantee to you that once you tried a Katkiss rom you won't be going back to this PIA. Plus - just in case you do want to return to stock you can just flash the Asus stock firmware.
Yes, you'll loose your current setup and apps, but I cannot imagine that to be a problem?

And why stop at Katkiss 5.0? Go for 7.1.2 to take advantage of the advances Android made in security etc.
Just flash the latest TWRP from the their repository, format data in TWRP, convert it to f2fs, then flash the rom and gapps. You can, but you don't have to flash SuperSU (most people use Magisk nowadays anyway for root), but you are safer without rooting the tablet. Do you need root? If you don't know, you don't need it.
