    Code:
    [brian@metcalf ~]$ adb devices
    List of devices attached
    0380620244402157	device

    root@android:/ # am start -n com.android.music/com.android.music.MediaPlaybackActivity -d /sdcard/music/file.mp3
    Starting: Intent { dat=/sdcard/music/03.Gasoline.mp3 cmp=com.android.music/.MediaPlaybackActivity }
    root@android:/ #
    This is the code that I used to play music remotely. When I did it the screen stayed off and the sound came out. Sounded horrible for some reason on my device but that was probably the music file I used. Hope this helps

    THIS link should give you a way to do this over WIFI as well. I originally did it via USB connection then realized you had said you wanted to do it wirelessly.
