[SOLVED] Almost empty Asus t100af, Windows 10 upgrade - not enough space

I am new to transformers. I bought a tf100AF (I own an Android tf700t - the tf100AF was a mistaken, but useful, purchase). Windows 8 takes up almost all of the HDD. Which I don't understand why a system would be designed that way in the first place.

I don't like have outdated software - especially OS.

I tried to upgrade to Windows 10. I cannot because there is not enough free space. I could free up the 1 GB needed I think, but then would Windows 10 take up my entire HDD? Or is part of that Windows 10 space needed just for the update process?

Is an SD card in a Windows Transformer model only for files, not apps or programs?

    Thank you

The free space is needed to complete the update. Windows also keeps a copy of your old Windows 8 installation for 60 days. Windows 10 actually takes up less space than 8.1.

You are mostly correct in your comment about SD cards. There are a few ways that programs can be stored on them but they are typically for files only.

Excellent! Thank you both. I will free space and upgrade to W10.

I am still short .40G I have uninstalled everything except Asus and Windows firmware, drivers, et al and Windows Updates. I can replace the updates, so I guess I can uninstall 183 of them. It will take a long time to uninstall updates. Oh well.

Update - I ran the disk clean up, ended up with 11.5GB free! It's working on the update, hasn't stopped again yet.

It worked!! I am updated to Windows 10. You can indeed move apps to an SD card in W10. Thank you both!
