T100 with Windows 10 fails to restart

Hi guys. I'm new to the forum.

I upgraded my T100 to Windows 10 days ago. Everything works pretty well once the drivers were updated, but sometimes the tablet wouldn't restart properly; the "Restarting" screen shows up, then the screen goes black (no backlight), and then that's it. I have to hard-reboot it by holding the power button for 10 seconds. Tried a clean install, but the issue persists.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what's causing it because it doesn't always happen - sometimes the tablet restarts properly, sometimes it doesn't, and the Event Logs has been of very little help. But I've noticed that the webcam light no longer turns on as the tablet restarts or shuts down, as it used to with Windows 8.1 (normally the light would turn on while the screen says "Restarting," then turn off, then turn back on again till the Asus logo appears).

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

    Welcome to the forum

Ever heard of new OS bugs?

I doubt this is anything more than that, but you could always try doing standard system maintenance, clear out the dross, perform any & all updates & then refresh Windows.

I'm having exactly the same problem on my T100TAM. Seems to be random.

This is on a clean Windows 10 install.

I think it's trying to do updates that were interrupted by loss of connection or whatever. Do a complete shutdown instead of restart. Win10 doesn't always shutdown (i.e. power down) a tablet.

I experience similar issue when I did clean install of win 10. After I select restart from start menu, the asus transformer would turn off but would not turn on again. Even when I hold down the power button for several secs but it's still hit and miss. I had plug in power and hold power button and retry several times before it finally boot again. Anyways I finally manage to fix by doing the following below:

    1. download the latest bios. Make sure to select your correct version (My model was T100TA, yours may be different).
    https://www.asus.com/us/2-in-1-PCs/A...Desk_Download/

    2. download the Windows BIOS Flash Utility at link below. Select your operating system (win 10 32bit, yours probably the same as well). *Note: there is another way to update your bios, which is go to easy flash in your bios but I won't go through that.
    ASUS Global

    3. Install then run the winflash utility you just downloaded. It will ask you to locate the bios we downloaded in step 1. Select the bios and it should restart and complete the BIOS update automatically. *Caution: At this step, my transformer fail to restart again -_-' so I had to turn it on manually and luckily it still reflash the bios.

Once you updated the bios, you shouldn't experience the restart fail anymore. Well at least for me anyways. Good luck to you.

Same problem here. After performing a clean install, it won't restart sometimes. The BIOS installed is already the latest released.

Just vented my frustration about this in another post two TAF units have this reboot problem TA never.
Different chipsets causing this? Will try another clean install without using internet connection to stop windows from updating and will install all drivers listed by Asus manually.

    Update
Just discovered that this happens even on first reboot when clean installing windows 10 from usb stick

    Another Update
problem persists, it rebooted fine once and then it happens again - SUCKS!

I believe it might have something to do with drivers. I've had this problem on my T100TA for a while now, but updating the chipset drivers with Windows Update seems to have reduced the frequency of it happening. Would be great to have a real solution though.
