    Question T100TAF Windows 10 continuum/auto-tablet mode

    Hello,

    I purchased a T100TAF yesterday and so far I am loving it. I installed the latest windows 10 preview on it last night and everything seems to be working fine, except for the continuum/auto-tablet mode. I went into the settings and set it to "don't ask me and always switch", but when I disconnect the tablet from the keyboard it stays in PC mode. I can manually switch the modes but that is a little inconvenient.

    I went into the device manager but there does not seem to be any unrecognised devices but I am not sure if and what driver(s) I need to update to get this feature to work.

    @Aces_Charles,

    How did you managed to install Windows 10 Preview on your T100TAF, since Windows 10 upgrade specs require 16 GB on the C: drive?

    I'm asking this because I have a T100TA and I'm willing to upgrade to Windows 10 when the final release is available. However, there are some threads here on this forum were people are discussing about the impossibility to install Windows 10 on 32 GB transformers.

    Best regards,

    No real issue as long as you know what you're doing... The final RTM installer will support switching partition/drive to make enough room to do a install and that means you can use a external drive to provide the needed free space...

    Or you can just put the installer on a external drive and run it from there to minimize the free space you would need on the internal drive for the final install, which will work pretty much just like the upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1... Except for your personal files and apps it's almost like doing a clean install...

    It's mainly a issue for people who just click install, choose upgrade, and have everything on the internal drive and don't take advantage of any of the other options...

    You could also just do a clean install instead of a upgrade... The process basically involves just validating that you have a valid product to upgrade and then they give you an equivalent Windows 10 License Key... Meaning you don't need the old installation anymore and can basically work as if you just bought a Windows 10 system... So you can just download the ISO and do a regular fresh installation with your new License Key...

    Though, until you get that License Key... It'll probably be a good idea to do a back up of your system to an external drive in case anything goes wrong and you need to start over or in case you ever, for whatever reason, want to go back to 8.1...

    While a fresh/clean install also gives you the option to do a compressed installation, like WIMBoot, which means you can squeeze everything down to easily fit on a 10GB partition and have it work as well as Windows 8.1 WIMBoot devices with 16GB drives, but in your case you would have the rest of the 32GB drive to work with...

    Mind, you'll still be using the 32bit version and that doesn't require as much space as the 64bit installation...

    Btw, Windows 10 will also support the same 10 year product support as previous Windows... So you'll be good until October 2025...

    Thanks for the explanation!

    BTW, why did you said 'October 2025', since Windows 10 is about to be released on July 29?

    Because that's the expiration date MS posted on their product page for when the Extended Support will end... Mind, July 29 is just the start of the Windows 10 roll out, not everyone is going to get it on that date...

    Yes, the same idea I had in my initial reply. It is a bug and you'll need to see if MS squash it when they continue to update, polish & refine W 10 prior to full release!
