    Wink Why iPad? (rhetorical)

So a friend stops in this morning to tell me she bought a new iPad last night. She then wants to know if I'll put the books I loaned her on my kindle on it for her? " The salesman said I could download books from a kindle..." Why do you think I who own 2 Kindles, a Macbook, a TF101 and a large ebook collection will not buy an iPad? Sideloading is not a piece of cake(on iPad) Marion, as I kept telling you when I told you why I had the Transformer. Buy your books from the iStore!

    I thought ipads did everything???
I bet if you leave the ebooks near the ipad it will
absorb them by osmosis and read them to you while you sleep.

If you send it as a pdf file, PDF Connoisseur does text to speech and will read it to her...

Anyway, this is why they created dropbox, I send stuff to my sister (1,200 miles away) with it all the time..

The Kindle app on iPad is fine... doesn't require side-loading if I recall correctly. Whether or not you want to share your Amazon account is another story...

And the fact that it doesn't work on your local network is why i still don't use it. You guys keep pushing for it, but i keep telling you that regularly sending hundreds of megs of information over a 1mbps connection when you cycle your files through your tablet is simply impractical. Upload 5Gigabytes of MP3s to dropbox where your upload rate is 50kilobytes per second, and then download them again where your download rate is 100Kilobytes per second... or you can simply copy them onto a memory card and stick that in. Which is probably easier when you're in someone elses house.

No biggie but 2 problems... 1) 1mbps is a very slow connection and 2) how often are you really trying to download 5gb of music from a friend's house!

Let's be practical here shall we and besides the topic from the OP was about how to get Kindle books on an iPad and to no shame of his own there are probably a lot of people out here who just don't know all the things that an iPad really can do. And even though it isn't for you and most people here on this forum it is for some.

You can do it through Amazon's account, under Manage My Kindle-- and if the book is unlocked for lending? You simply lend it to her Amazon account, and it'll be available for download to her iPad's Kindle app.

Not all books are so unlocked, and I think the lending period is limited to a fixed timeslot. I do not know if you can see the books out on lone, on your device-- I've never tried it.

    ---------------

My solution to lending books? Multiple kindles. These are cheap enough, now, and I've upgraded too (but kept the old functional ones).

So, at a friend's house, is my oldest Kindle, still registered to me-- my friend can see all the Amazon books I've purchased this way, and read those he likes.

Likewise, I have an older Kindle 3 at my house-- but I gave my friend it's serial number, and de-registered it from my account-- he re-registered it to his Amazon account. Now, I can see his books, and read those I like. (he lives some distance from me)

Obviously, there's a trust issue-- I have promised not to use his kindle to purchase anything on his account, and likewise he won't use mine to get books on my dime.

But it is the best way to share Amazon Kindle books.

Dell Streak 7 running Honeycomb 3.2, rooted. 64gb SDXC. Mainly used as a music player.
Virgin Mobile Optimus Slider, rooted -- frequently used as WiFi hotspot. 16gb microSDHC.

The reason it was the right decision for her to make is because it's the safest thing to buy. Everyone's got one.

My solution to the kindle books is I strip out the drm and really own my ebooks for real. This requires a bit of programming know-how, though.
