I haven't bought a "Tablet" yet, so I do not know anything about them. I'm here to learn and see if tablets are what i need.

Welcome ghforlife...it all depends on 'what your needs are', as you've stated.
Using it for work/school primarily, or is it for fun/media?
Do you really need full portability? Or is a laptop/ultrabook portable enuff--and more powerful.
If you're looking to replace a laptop with a tablet, be careful, it can be more time consuming doing things via tablet/apps. (multi-tasking for instance, not so much on a tablet)
Having said that, if you want/need a great portable device, they sure do add flexibility to 'puter life. Email, light word editing, pics/tunes/ebooks/suf'n/vid's...it's all there.
Apps are super easy to install/uninstall so you can test drive a lot of them...which is good, cause some are lumpy. Hit some links around here, read some reviews, tons of
google info on different models...there's something for everyone. Cheers.

Good idea Research first, buy second.

If I were you, I would have a read through the links in my signature as they will give you lots of hints & tips as to just what can be done with a tablet. Personally, I doubt we will ever use a PC again as everything we need to do can now be done using this great new form factor.
