Wifi Direct -- Removed by Asus in Jelly Bean 4.1.x?
Really? I know it's buggy but it is one of the reasons I went ahead with an Android device, the use of Wifi direct for printers and potentially other devices. Printing is my primary need for it as I travel a LOT for work and do need to print. Cloud printing or via wifi network will generally be impossible at worst or problematic at best. Now it's going to be what?
I really cannot wait for Win 8 Pro tablets so I can get away from the whole -ix cluster-you-know-what...then again with it all moving this way perhaps Win 8 (no not RT but v8 Pro) might be no different...maybe I'm just too old for the constantly moving target. after nearly 4-decades in IT I would expect more stability feature set wise than ever fluid features.
I think I finally give up.

I have never tried the WiFi Direct, but I found that I could use PrintBot to print directly to printers and Google Cloud Print to print to remote cloud printers.
Recently I started using PrinterShare and it works quite well, including local WiFi and Bluetooth Printers. Just printed a web page from my TF101 to an HP5000 at the office via WiFi.

I think Google dropped it as it isn't in the aosp ROM either.

I hand't used it yet myself but have been printer shopping looking at various options, several of which support Wifi-Direct and the removal cuts the field down a fair bit.
Knowing that PrinterShare is still working after the JB update is re-assuring. I had not run into PrintBot just yet so thans for that also.
During my searching for a printer I was really surprised by the small number of decent printers which support BT. I guess at the price point for printers these days BT is a pricey option.

That's interesting as well. The removal is sure odd and not getting any attention in the media. I would have thought it would be a more significant thing. Maybe it's me who's in the minority here in wanting to just go direct to printer sans router. I've got a Nextel 4620L on the way which would render the whole thing a non-issue I suppose. Still I can see times when I would just want to fire up the printer and print w/o adding yet another device to my "portable" solution....hahaha...funny we have come so far from my original 26lb Compaq "Portable" but still have pretty much the same issues most surrounding connectivity or peripherals or access to data on the go....the more things change the more they stay the same it seems. hahaha..

I think a lot of printer mfg are supporting it via an addon as most folks don't use it. My Canon needs a USB addon device to use the BT. Also extra $$$$$$ for the mfg.

It’s there on my Nexus 7, but it’s not as obvious as it was on ICS.
Go to settings-> WiFi, then click the menu icon (the 3 dots) and it’s the third entry on the menu.
