Red Battery Status Light/TF101 will not start even when "charging"

    Hello,

I'm having similar issues as many others here.

My tablet would randomly reboot/freeze after I received the ICS Update. I would have to press/hold the power button to restart the device. Then I installed another firmware update a couple of days ago and now my TF will not start at all.

When rebooting, the screen would briefly flash a red depleted battery, then turn off automatically. At first I thought that I was not properly charging the device but I notice that the battery level always stayed the same (about 1/4 full) and never decreased. Even when plugged in to my charger, the battery status never changed.

At this point, I don't know what to do. I would appreciate any assistance or advice anyone could provide.

    Thanks in advance.

    Mike

Have you tried leaving it on the charger overnight before trying to turn it on?

The other thing I can think of is to find another cable/adapter combo to try. I have heard of the chargers going south lately.

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes. I have had my unit plugged up for two days now. Switched sockets, tried connecting to the PC just to see if I could get a connection but nothing.

I have no problem buying a new charger but it just seems weird that these problems are occurring right after the firmware update.

That has happened to a quite a few people here lately. Even a couple that didn't update, but it still happened about the same time. One more thing to try that is in a thread around here somewhere is to put your adapter in a bag in the freezer for a few hours and then trying it.

    Try a cold reboot.

    "Cold Boot (aka Hard Reset)
Unplug the power cord and shut the unit off. Press and hold the VOL DOWN and then POWER button at the same time for at least 10-12 seconds until after the start-up screen appears and is joined by some small print at the top of the screen then let them both go. If the TF booted the way it always does, you have not accomplished the task, try again until you have seen the 2 icons in the screen.

After a few seconds you should see a couple of shapes in the middle of the screen called "Wipe Data" and "Android". The right "Android" will have a green highlight fading in and out. Wait a few more seconds until the term "Cold Booting Linux" appears in the list near the top of the screens and let it reboot. If you own a keyboard dock be sure you do this with the dock connected.

This applies to all TF models, however, if your Prime is locked up, there is a reset available using the hole just below the SD Card slot, this is NOT the same as a hard reset."

@bfmetcalf: I will try the freezer idea and see what happens

@MikeM: I tried the hard reset and it didn't seem to work. The red battery flashed briefly twice and nothing happened after that. I may try the reset by the SD slot but wanted to know this step will wipe my data? If so, I would like to try other methods first before.

Thank you both and any others who may have some idea/solutions.

That is not a reset hole on the TF101, it's the microphone. Do not stick anything in there.

Oh, I think I misunderstood. In your post you said ..." if your Prime is locked up, there is a reset available using the hole just below the SD Card slot, this is NOT the same as a hard reset."

Were you referring to something else?

Here you said "Red Battery Status Light/TF101 will not start even when "charging".

If you don't have a Prime TF201 don't stick anything in that hole.

@bfmetcalf: The freezer method worked! I plugged it in and it worked like nothing happened.

I don't know whether I need to buy a new charger (thinking of getting the docking station anyway) but it's crazy to have to put parts in the freezer but oh well.

UPDATE: (Still randomly shuts down/freezes but will read other posts on ways to resolve that issue)

    Thanks again.
