    I found this thread: http://www.transformerforums.com/for...1-17-root.html
There is a small tool that seems to be able to root the latest ICS version.
I've tried it and it says that the rooting was succesfull, but I'm not an expert and don't know how to verify it.

    @goodintentions: would this be useable?

OK, so what did you do?
I've the same problem with the same device (TF101G) and want to go back to android 3 as well.
Please tell me what did you do after rooting the device?

    Now I'm in trouble..
I did all the steps as desciped by goodintentions and used the last zip file from the asus site.
Everything looked to go perfect but now the tablet will not startup at all :-(
It is repeatingly showing the Asus logo and the looping cirkels below it...
Tried everything, but nothing works anymore.
Is it possible to do some recovery?

Turn it off. Turn it on by pressing and holding power button and volume down button. When you see texts, release buttons and immediately press the volume up button. Tell me what you see then.

How long did you leave it for that looping circle to run? The first bootup takes a while because it has to rebuild the cache and data partitions. If you interrupt this process you will screw up your system.

I waited for maybe 10 minutes, would that normally be long enough?
I see a green Andoid robot with turning weels for 2 second and then a exclamation mark.
Is there anything I can do?

Stop panicking. Panicking make people do stupid things. Your TF is fine. The android with the exclamation mark is good news.

    (1) Change the name of the zip file you were going to flash (install) to EP101_SDUPDATE.zip.

    (2) Put it into your micro sdcard. Do not put into your TF yet.

    (3) Turn off your TF.

    (4) Turn on your TF by pressing and holding the power and volume down buttons. You will be brought to a window with 2 squares. On the left says wipe data and on the right says boot linux. Press volume down button to move the selection to wipe data and press the volume up button to select it.

    (5) Once wipe is done, it will try to reboot. Wait to see what happens. If it still doesn't boot into system, force turn off by pressing and holding power button.

    (6) Put in micro sdcard.

    (7) Turn on by pressing and holding power and volume down buttons. Once you see white texts immediately press the volume up button.

    (8) The TF will now install the operating system from the zip file you put in the micro sdcard.

    (9) Once it's done, it will automatically reboot into the system. Put the TF down and go drink some vodka. Leave it alone this time. Don't interrupt.
