Ice Cream Sandwich - First Impressions

I am in Minnesota, USA. Received my update first thing this morning. Did an app backup, and a cold boot, took a deep breath, and began the update.

After the update finished, and my TF rebooted - panic! - looks like all my apps are gone, my wallpaper is there, but a blinking cursor and that's it. Then a message something like "TV Guide Mobile has stopped". I try a reboot, another reboot, and then a cold boot. Same thing...

Just for the heaven of it - I un-docked and wham! my unlock screen appears, I enter my unlock code, and my apps and everything appear. I start to play...

Man this thing is FAST! And... buttery smooth!

Another TV Guide error... and another... Guess I'll have to remove that app, or reinstall - no biggie...

I re-dock and continue to play - everything working great so far! I then try a power off, with the tab in the dock, and back on, same dumb blinking cursor. I un-dock it, and everything comes back. It's like I can't see the unlock screen or anything if I boot with the tablet in the dock.

So... have to sort that out for sure! I just wanted to share this with others, in case you have the same results, and panic I did. I'm an old guy and my heart can't take a lot... :-)

Thank you Asus and Google for ICS!!

I hope your experience with it is flawless - I like it so far but the boot/dock issue remains a mystery to me at this time!

P.S. Did I mention fast... and buttery smooth? :-)

If you have a dock please be sure your TF is docked and have at leased 50% battery power before you do the ICS Update. In addition, do a cold restart after the update. This should insure your update goes smoothly.

Mine for sure was docked properly, both tab and dock fully charged, and running with the power cord plugged in when I did my update. I'm assuming you're just passing this along as general info for everyone, and not for the issue(s) I have.

I've removed TV Guide app now - who needs TV when you have ICS! :-) Now another cold restart, and same result with it docked upon boot- blinking cursor, my nice wallpaper, and that's it. Just for the heck of it I type my unlock code on the dock, and now everything comes back to life. So... it appears... at least for me... that the little number pad graphic that I enter my lock code into doesn't appear when docked, just a blinking cursor. I'd better give my heart a rest for a half hour or so... :-)

Can you remind me how to do a cold restart please? Thanks.

First post. Just updated to ICS and it's amazing. I came from an iPad so I was always a little sad when my Transformer lagged or stuttered given how consistently smooth the iPad was. I wasn't expecting much from ICS, i did read a few reviews before and all they mentioned were silly camera features (cam sucks on tf101 so who cares?) and a new font. So what I really got was huge.

    - Web browser is way faster. Doesn't re-render complex pages anymore. Seems like it's finally hw accelerated, and scrolling is buttery smooth just like an iPad 2 (finally!)
    - YouTube app doesn't reload the video when you rotate the screen anymore :-)
    - Flash didn't work initially, but an update from market fixed that.

Overall, awesome, must upgrade from HC.

Think I got up earlier than normal to check on ICS and it was ready for installing.
Definitely quicker, smother, better font look etc. Also have the Google+ force close but it usually shows up AFTER I exit the program (???)
I alternate between the ASUS and Android keyboards and after ICS neither seems to make a sound when a "key" is pressed. Settings for both indicated that a sound is to be made but don't. Have sound in videos, games etc. Not a serious problem but would be nice to be able to hear when a key has been pressed correctly.
    Love ICS so far

Power off the TF. Then when powering it back on press and hold volume down + the power button. Hold until you see ti power on and small text in the top left corner of the screen. Do nothing and you will see two icons in the middle of the screen. One Android the other Wipe Data. Leave it and it will cold boot in 10 seconds.

    ~think I got that right~
