Thanks. I know how to do that. But, when I try it absolutely nothing happens. I've cold-booted it before when I first had it. But, it just won't turn on. Then after I try, I have to hold down on the power button for about 15 seconds or so for it to go on because it got locked up. So, I guess when I try to cold boot, it's locking up. Anyone have any advice on what to do??

    Thanks.

I'm wondering if you have a hardware fault related to your volume key. If you can, I'd get your unit replaced by your retailer.

    I must be "thick"

How does one know whether updates are normal incremental OR include a change of OS ?

For the proces that includes a change of OS: is step 9) done 4 times, with the first 3 skipping all the account setting up & wifi passwords etc, and the 4th a "normal" completed with no skipping? Then steps 10) and 11) are collapsed into step 9) ?

Pete - if you already have android 4.1, the latest tf300 update is just an incremental one.
As to identifying - when you have installed an update it is common practice to check the version of Android to see what has happened. 4.0.3 is ICS.

    4.1.x is Jelly Bean (JB)

As to the process, I'm sorry but I don't know how to explain it with more clarity than I have.

When upgrading to Jelly bean (when it comes to the UK) if you follow all of the above steps and use the ASUS app backup utility:

1: Providing you 'select all' does it literally backup every single app you've installed
    2. Does it back up apps like the app backup utility and other ASUS apps? Or will they come with the OS upgrade?

    Thanks

For example just now it completed the backup and it said it backed up 41 apps, but if I go to apps in Play Store I have 57 installed

Many apps come with the OS - Gmail for example. The Asus App Backup does a great job & many, many of us have used it for this type of update more than once. What you are describing sounds fine.

Not to confuse anyone, but is there a reason why you install the update AND THEN backup your apps?
The last couple days I've been backing up my personal stuff/documents/books etc...and today I did the
app/data backup via the App Backup. In jotting down these instructions, I realized it was apply update--then
cold boot & do the app backup.

    Am I moron? (rhetorical)
I mean...should I toss my backup & repeat that step after installing the Jelly Bean'R Machine'R?
