Lightbulb Which Transformer tablet to get???

    Hi

I'm due to get my dad a new Transformer pad with keyboard dock

Between the tf300 and and the tf201 which one is the better machine?

I was due to get the prime (which is the tf201 right?) but had the guy in the store tell me the tf300 is better but appears to be almost £100 cheaper (?) as well as telling me that the tf201 is "end of line"

Abit confused and would appreciate any info as I'm in the position to get either machine and just want to know which one is the higher end model (any other info would be great also)

why not try the tf01 with keyboard/dock station , its got 2 full size usb ports , ideal for charging your phone/mp3 , very well constructed , well balanced ,i have heard the tf300 are top heavy and are prone to topple over , check it out !!!

I wouldnt recommend the TF101, its being phased out now and is significantly weaker with only a dual core 1GHz compared to quad core 1.2-1.6GHz on other models

There are a lot of wireless issues on the TF201 and you will not get great bluetooth, wifi or GPS signal, of course if you are within a couple of meters of your wifi you'll be fine, or you could find a compatible USB to ethernet adpater to give you wired internet

The TF300 has fixed these issues although it was made to be cheap so lacks a few things, it has a plastic case, no Super IPS, no LED flash (rear cam) and i think a 0.1GHz weaker CPU although that isn't too major and you wont notice the difference

The 201 has a metal shell (can be a problem for some with wifi and GPS), a rear camera flash, a brighter screen and is clocked slightly faster. The 300 has a plastic shell (no problems at all with Wifi or GPS), is slightly thicker and no flash. The RAM I think is DDR3 vs DDR2 on the 201.
EDIT: The 201 has gorilla glass.

In a nut shell I guess it boils down to what its going to be used for will influence the decision.

I have the 300 as I don't really need a camera flash, it is used inside and the screen is too bright if set to the brightest setting for me. Oh and the price :-)

    My opinion...

The Prime was poorly designed & is not a good device. I haven't ever & still don't recommend it.

The tf300 is the best value for money tablet in the Asus range, but in the UK is exclusively sold only as the tablet & keyboard dock together - you cannot buy just the tablet. Originally you could only get it through Currys/PC world, but I see its on Amazon now, too. £399.

Does your Dad want the keyboard dock? If so, why?

If it turns out he wants just a tablet (which is what I wanted), then look also at the Acer Iconia A510 - tegra 3, quad core, 1.3ghz, 32gb storage, microSD, micro USB, comes with a USB converter cable that works with keyboard, mouse, flash card readers, and other peripherals, HDMI - for only £349, again on Amazon. A saving of £50, double the storage & no need for the cumbersome keyboard dock - which is proving to be the most unreliable part of the combo...

    Something to think about, anyway.
