Just purchased the TF201 (used - eBay). OS is 4.0.3 and firmware is iml74k.us_epad-9.4.2.28-20120525. Please tell me if this is the most current firmware and OS release for this product. I see that some of you are on a more current OS which I cannot seem to get to. I have tried the system firmware upgrade but receive the 'no update available' message. The Asus upgrade site is quite confusing as to which upgrade I may need to install. Thanks for any advice offered. carli56

Yeah, it's a rant...of course...but really take it as something humorous though a significant issue for me. And anyone with an app recommendations to mitigate my issue would be appreciated.

Here is what I have seen since my tf300t updated itself to 4.2.1 (the 2nd update not the initial which actually ran fine in my case), but what is happening is when I connect to our multi-node/same SSID network is I connect to the specific node I MUST BE CONNECTED TO and soon as the system sniffs out a node with a stronger INCOMING signal it hops to that node. Problem is apparently the good folks at either Asus or Google or most likely both forget there are two sides to a wifi conversation and there is much more to a connection than the incoming signal strength.

In my case I've an assigned node I am supposed to do my work from and all was fine, I would fire up the app I use for connecting, Wifi Analyzer, specify the node to which I want to connect and viola I'm online. This has worked fine, for the most part, since I bought my tablet almost a year ago. However since this last update there is zero connection stability/reliability. I cannot assume I am still connected to the node I selected and I find it will often swap in the middle of some sort of conversation happening over the node. Meaning Android does not seem to give a flying-flip if there is anything happening over the connection as long is it sees what it thinks is a better connection. I don't like this. ;)

Why can we not get some modern designs for things in Android? Why is there ZERO user control over the real components of these devices. It is an OS based in the same retard-mode philosophy in which iOS is entrenched. We don't even have control over tap sensitivity for the mouse pad then again that is more an Asus side of the matter than Android in general since we are in a "special short-bus class" for even buying into this system.

I expect we should have access to settings such as WIFI roaming tendency. We should have a choice how our connection behaves. If I want it to roam aggressively then fine let me set it...if I need a more restrictive behavior let me select some middle ground and here is the important one...if I do not want it to roam the by the gawds let me set it to that in a simple mouse click and be done with it.

I guess I am just to the point where I am weary of fight what is allegedly a 21st century OS only to run into ca 1993 limitations. This is one of those cases. Plus I can't root as I do not have a 'normal' PC these days thanks to my last one sorta failing it's smoke test and catching on fire briefly. It seems PC's don't like fire...or shorted power cord cables...who knew? ;)

I have been pondering installing one of those "keep my wifi connection alive" apps to see if that keeps me anchored to the node. Problem is such an app will likely squash my battery runtime over the course of a shift. I just haven't got the energy to install yet another app to kludge around what should be a system intrinsic setting or function. I mean what is the point of the OS if everything basic needs an app? I guess that is a nice feature so we can customize things w/o rooting but is it?

Running 4.2.1 on a TF700. The 'black line' problem hasn't been solved and a new issue has cropped up.

When I open an app the screen will get brighter in 3 distinct steps. When I close the app and go back to the desktop, the screen will dim in 3 distinct steps. Happens with any app I open and close. The overall change in brightness isn't significant but it is noticeable. This is only since the update to 4.2.1. I am NOT running on Auto Brightness.

Anyone else experiencing this or have any insights?

Thanks.

Edit: Somehow the dynamic backlight function had got turned on in the Asus Customized Settings.
