    Choosing a gaming computer

    HI,
wanna run high end programs on my T100, like CAD and GTA 5..
    But T100 have only baytrail.
Is it possible to plug it into an external GPU to boost its performance, and make these programs run-able?

I doubt it. What external GPU did you have in mind?

Perhaps you should've gotten the T100Chi or maybe even one of the Asus ROG laptops?

First thing that comes to mind is that you are not going to get anywhere near the advertised performance with this thing plugged into a t100

    1. If you are using a USB connection to transfer information between the two the connection will be a very slow bottleneck for the entire system. From some of the storage benchmarks I've seen the USB connection on the t100 is not lightning fast. Having a two way data stream between the gpu and tablet is just going to slow things down even further.

    2. Processing information from the gpu and outputting it to the display needs CPU power as well. You are limited by the anemic Bay Trail setup on board. Not to mention the fact that high performance games don't just run on GPUs alone. Some games are much more CPU intensive than gpu.

The gpu won't be powered from the USB connection. You're going to need an external 110v wall connection for that. At this point if you're attached to a wall with your 10 inch screen you're going to want to connect a secondary display. I doubt that would be possible. The t100 can only output to one display at 720p and 30fps. Not exactly the best gaming metrics. If you add a graphics card connection on top of this everything is going to be very unstable.

I haven't looked into the cost of these units but the bottom line is that you are likely paying a lot for something that is going to have a limited effect when used with such an underpowered machine. You are much better off investing in a used gaming pc or even a modern generation PC (desktop or laptop) with Intel full voltage class CPUs and high end integrates graphics (like Intel Iris) or even a discrete nvidia card.

I won't go into specifics as I believe GT has already covered them all for me, however just to be clear, this will not run with the T100 period. This is not meant for a T100, majority parts of T100 are soldered, and it's a tablet, not a desktop/DIY, where you can easily add/remove different components, not a gaming tablet/hybrid. Best for you is to invest in a mid-lvl gaming laptop/desktop or the Asus Rog series, which I use myself for serious stuff and does a great job in doing so. Goodluck!

@wifislow... straight to the point... this won't work.

As I said earlier, you need a different device.

The only way to play something like GTA V on your T100 would be to use Steam in-home streaming and run the game on a high-end PC and stream the video to your T100.

GTA V would be limited by your CPU, GPU & RAM, none of which can be improved. Not to mention GTA V is a 64-bit only application, and won't even boot on the T100, which can only run 32-bit programs.

Only a specialized gaming tablet is going to run GTA V well, or a decent laptop. Even Surface Pro 3's cannot run GTA V at a playable speed, and they have Intel i5's with Intel HD4400 GPU's and 4GB of RAM.

Will something like HD 5500 will run the game????
Just run at a playable speed is fine, I don't mind low settings.
The decent laptop is just tooo expensive for me.. and the usable life of these laptops are lower. thanks
