    Charger question for TF600T keyboard

I am new here and I would like to clear something up. I just recently purchased a refurbished TF600T and the seller cautioned me not to use the generic chargers for the keyboard and dock. He said I have to buy the OEM charger which are hard to find and are expensive. I want to add the keyboard but not before I know what I am supposed to use to charge it safely. He said that the generic chargers - i.e the cheap ones - will short out when used to charge the docked keyboard. Can these things be charged un attached to the tablet? I would like some guidance please.
    Thanks, Hektor

What you need to ascertain is the voltage and amperage of the Asus charger and also whether the Asus charging cable has a proprietory connector.

If memory serves, the TF600 uses the same charging system as the Android TF range - take a read through our Battery & Charger FAQ guide thread, linked from the Master Help Guide (link in signature, below).

The other factor you do need to seriously consider is if the RT is the right device for you. Windows RT is a largely discredited and redundant OS. You can't do much with it...

Of course, if the device has a more normal Windows 8 or 8.1 OS then you are fine. Be careful about any update to W10 though...

Thanks for your reply. I bought the tablet mostly for travel. My wife and I are retired and we usually go somewhere two or three times a year, by plane or Amtrak. It is nice to be able to listen to old radio show downloads and watch movies but our 11 inch laptop has a poor battery life. The Kindle Fire HD we have is okay but our older version only has 8GB total storage.
The Asus tf600 I bought has Windows RT 8.1and so far it works fine. This combination has more than what I need for a short trip somewhere. I rejected Windows 10 for our two desktops already. Without a touch screen, Windows 8 or 10 is fairly useless for us.

    New TF600 keyboard coming

I decided to buy the keyboard for my TF600T. I also ordered the Asus OEM wall charger and the cord to plug into the keyboard. I have read the different postings on charging and for me it can get confusing. I asked the question on Amazon about chargers and some people responded that the generic wall chargers work just fine, but the Asus instructions that I downloaded say different and they illustrate using the official Asus wall charger and detachable cord.

When I receive the keyboard should I first charge it unattached to the TF600?

Threads merged. No need for two. Read the charging thread I referred to and , yes, I would charge the keyboard separately to start with.

USB cord for TF600T not seen

I bought a USB cord to connect the TF600T to the PC and it was not recognized by either. I managed to get two cords and the same for both. I did not buy them from the Asus E-store. Any advice or clues?

A standard USB cable cannot connect any 2 computers together. It requires a cable that is intended to transfer data. Kind of a cross over but specialized cable. What exactly are you trying to do?

I bought a cable with the 36 pin Asus mail connector plug on one end and a USB male plug on the other end. As I understood it, I can transfer data as well as us this cord with the OEM Asus charging adaptor which is arriving later. It does come with a cord, fortunately. Perhaps I should have bought the usb to 36 pin cord from the Asus E-store
