Go to settings-about, all way at the bottom. That will let you know what version you have. You can't really turn off the auto update. At least not if you're talking about the firmware.

if you right swipe from the far right edge, it will give you the pc information at the bottom is more settings, you can see the "control panel" that way. Or if you go to the folder at the bottom to see your files, you can type control panel in the addres bar and get to things that way. I am not sure that you can turn off the auto update though

In the Control Panel there's the Windows Update option and you can change its settings to 'Never check for the updates'!

Mind some updates are pretty much mandatory and for critical fixes and patches for problems they discover over time...

For the Firmware, other options not yet suggested include... How To Access The BIOS On A Windows 8 Computer

If you you're quick, you can also choose to power on the device by holding the POWER button and the VOLUME down button... the version will then flash briefly before the OS boots...

Need to cut back on my coffee. That's twice this week I've treated an RT device as an Android device.

ZEO- I tried everything on the webpage given and I do not seem to have that system or access to it. I am signed in as the admin. I am not new to doing this sort of thing. I was in tech support for years.
