Vivotab tf810c keyboard dock battery not working

Has anyone had trouble with the battery in the keyboard dock with a vivotab 810? I purchased the vivotab and the keyboard dock and as soon as I started using it I noticed that the dock battery was not delivering power to the tablet. The battery does charge and shows up in the Windows battery meter but it always stays at %100. Anyone have a suggestion?

Welcome to the forum Jim! I'm not really very familiar with the Vivo, but have you tried a hard reset (cold boot) with the tab docked, that's usually the first line of attack!

Hi, and thanks for the response. I did try that and sometimes (but not always) a complete shutdown and restart does make it start using the dock battery, but just for that session. After putting it back to sleep or restarting, it goes back to ignoring the dock battery. It seems to me that it should just work when ever I dock the tablet.

It should! Maybe a Vivo user, or someone with more tech know-how than me, will come along with some other suggestions!

i have a different problem but still related to this topic. the dock battery doesn't seem to be charging (at this time, it seemed to be charging yesterday). the tablet battery is 100% and it's status is Fully charged. Although, the dock battery is 39% and the status reads "plugged in, not charging".. does anybody know what's going on?

Welcome to the forum Denics. First line of attack, a hard reset docked (power + volume down, until instructions appear on upper left of screen...allow to boot). If that doesn't help, connect to PC via USB and allow to trickle charge for several hours (don't allow PC to sleep during charge).

Ok, its starting to look like there needs to be a firmware or driver update to fix this issue. Since the original problem I have now spoken with Asus tech support several times, replaced the keyboard dock once and replaced the tablet itself once and the problem still persists. I find it hard to believe that I got either 2 defective keyboard docks in a row or 2 defective tablets in a row so I suspect that there is some kind of issue with the firmware or drivers. Hopefully Asus can fix this soon so I don't have to return it in favor of the Samsung Ativ.

Could be worth noting here that the Vivo works like the later transformer range in that the Tablet will not draw power from the dock unless it has less than 70% power

Hi Breed, and thanks for the response. That's interesting information given that Asus tech support never mentioned that fact to me. I will certainly check that out today and report my findings.

With ASUS's support record on this device so far, it really doesn't surprise me. Anyway my experience with the VivoTab has matched this, taken from the Definite Battery Related Matters thread:

    TF201/TF300/TF700
    * The charger charges the docked combo all together.
    * When fully charged, the tablet uses the charge first, then the dock charges the tablet. The idea being that the dock battery will be depleted while maintaining the tablet battery. See below...

The way the combo works is that the dock does not charge the tablet continuously. I believe the percentages are along the following lines..
    Dock 100%
    Tablet 100%

Tablet uses charge until the level is around 70%. At this point the dock will recharge the tablet back up to around 90%, if the tablet is not being used.

If the tablet is being used, then the dock "powers" the tablet, balancing the charge rate with a direct bias to ensure that the dock will eventually drop to 3-5% with the tablet at around 90%.

The dock shouldn't allow itself to become any more discharged than 3-5% & neither should the tablet. Android will warn you when the tablet drops to 14%.

The dock will still continue to function until the tablet shuts off.
