Follow up on the recurring phantom touches on our tab:
After recalibration and reinstallation of OS and original firmware at the service center the problem was gone. At home we let the tablet install all the updates and firmwares once we had it back. However, after two days a single phantom touch reappeared in the login screen and during bootup and the touch screen was unusable - the problem seemed slightly different from the original phantom touch problem though (see previous post by me). The tablet went back to the service center where they replaced the touchscreen and we got the tablet back a day later.

So far the problem seems to be gone, but only time will tell. One interesting side effect of the replaced screen is that the second reported problem of the tablet often crashing when being removed from the dock appears to be gone. Possibly these issues are connected?

That is good to know Zampano77 I will definitely keeps that in mind. I just want to share with everyone some troubleshooting steps I have been taking before sending my device in. For some reason when I start a specific service (Software Protection Service) The issue goes away, now it can go away for a few minutes or it can go away for several hours. I have been looking into the system logs when the machine starts up and noticing some interesting things with drivers not initializing correctly.

    Description:
The UMDF reflector was unable to complete startup because the WUDFPf service was not found. This service may be started later during boot, at which point Windows will attempt to start the device again.

    And

    Description:
The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device ACPI\INVN6050\2&daba3ff&3.

Here is an explanation of UMDF and how a hardware vendor like ASUS would use
this as oppose to Kernal Mode Drivers

Overview of the UMDF (Windows Drivers)

New poster here, thought I share my experience. I tried something which seems to have worked for me so you could give it a try at your own risk.

Had bought the vivotab rt some time ago with no screen issues whatsoever initially. Installed the firmware released around mid march and that's when my touch issues started. My screen developed phantom touch issues on the left side - tried complete factory reset 3 to 4 times but the problem did not get resolved completely.
The touch would stick if I wandered to much on the left screen edge.

Thought of doing an experiment - I reduced the screen resolution to one lower step - 1280x768 followed by calibrating the touch screen. The screen on the left seemed to be off a bit after that especially if I were to type with the onscreen keyboard.
Went back to the original resolution 1366x768 after this followed by resetting the touch screen calibration.
After completing the above steps, I have not seen the phantom touch issue pop up so far - I will keep an eye out for this and report back if it re-appears.

Yes - you should search for 'calibrate' which should bring up 'Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input'

I tried the screen resolution before and recalibrating with the windows based calibration. The ASUS support site knowledge-base on this specific issue warns against calibrating with that tool. supposedly ASUS has a "special" way of calibrating.

Now, if anyone can try the suggestion from Vborovvikov. I diabled NFC yesterday and so far so good, it has been hours and so far its not returning.

I tried turning NFC off but does not seem to work for me. Turned off GNSS and Bluetooth as well but the issue remains.
