Which Video File Format to use for DVDs

I have recently bought my Transformer. I have converted DVDs to MP4 but when I play them on the TF the pictures is by no means sharp and you cant read any of the writing on the screen. I have read somewhere that I should convert them to AVI files and that will give crisp HD quality playback. Is this correct

I have tried to find a freeware converter, but every time I down load these the option to convert to AVI doesn't seem to work. Can anyone explain all of this to me.

Run, do not walk, and simply buy DVDcatalyst. Great product, works right out of the box with TF-optimized profiles, superbly supported by the author right here on this forum.

    Agreed. Well worth the $10!

But I want it for free. Why would I want to pay a developer?

You may want to pay a developer because then they will continue to develop said product and add features to it, or develop companion products to enhance the experience. If you want to do it for free, check out Freemake and Handbrake. These do not have pre-defined settings for devices like the TF, iPad or Xoom and you will have to play around with the settings until you get it to work nicely with your device(s). IMO, it is worth money as Mitch at DVD Cat has worked the bugs out and made it easy.

You're right. It's an outrage that people expect some kind of rewards for their efforts. You work for free, right?

(I'm conscious that you may have omitted a smiley from your post)

You're very correct that I ommited a smiley. Did it on purpose in the hope that some of the people on this former might get the hint that their requests for free software is pathetic. Funny thing is that the same people requesting the free software turn around and bitch about the lack of quality...

BTW - I gladly paid the $10 for DVD Catalyst. Its a great product and gets better support (on this forum none-the-less) than products costing a lot more. I'm especially impressed that DVD Catalyst often answers questions about video players/converters/issues without making his answers into a commercial for his product.

    Nice one Itch,

I caught your intention when I scrolled down this thread and noticed your first post

All over the web you see "real" posts and comments similar to yours though, and its sad. Especially when it comes to smartphones. Upgrading to the latest phone all the time, while maintaining a pricy phone+text+data plan with it seems to make quite a few people believe that everything else just comes with it for free.

When you get stuck using a "free one" there is no Mitch to guide you through. Mitch aka DVD Catalyst backs his product 100% and he is there to help when you encounter a problem as in this recent thread:http://www.transformerforums.com/for...t/7988-up.html
