Post How do I view iphone5 videos on the Transformer

    Hello

I am new to tablets and Android so hopefully someone can walk me through this.

I have taken some videos on my iphone5 and I want to view them on the TF700. I connected the tablet to the PC, copied the files to the tablet, tried to view and got a blank screen. I have tried searching all over the place but cannot get a definitive answer.

    Can anyone help?

On a side note, is it possible to show the filename suffix (.jpg, .txt etc) on the tablet?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum!

I am not sure about the stock file manager for showing file extensions, however I know it can be done with the app ES File Explorer. I do not have the stock file manager because I am on a custom ROM, but even when I was stock I still used ES because it is very versatile (FTP Client, Windows Network Shares, Cloud Storage access).

As far as iPhone videos, well, good luck! The format that iOS uses is not very compatible with Android for some reason. I have tried many players and never had success. My BEST option is to upload to YouTube and make it private, then view it (and/or download it using a YouTube downloader) on my tablet. Not the best workaround, but it is the easiest I have found short of using a video converter on a PC.

Hi Ian & welcome to the forum

I suspect that all you need are two things...
    1. A file manager &
    2. A different video playing app

You might be able to do what I am going to advise in the stock Asus File Manager, but you can certainly do it in either Astro File Manager or ES File Manager apps, both free from the Play Store.

In the File Manager app of your choice, got to settings & show files as a list, with file details turned on. (ES) or in Astro ensure "show file extensions" is ticked.

Then you will be able to see file extensions & if necessary, rename your iPhone videos to .mp4 files (I believe mp4 is the correct format, but Apple suffix them as .m4v).

Secondly, get MX player from the Play Store, again free, this video playing app handles anything I have ever needed it to play, including the often problematic .flv format.

As your question & the answer is applicable across all the android TF range, I have amended your thread title a little & moved this thread to our video section.

Please post back if you need anything further.

I see Frederuco beat me to it again (he has an iPhone - I don't) & doesn't believe that the videos will be viewable. He will know better than me so I guess you could still try, but might not get any better results than he has.

There is nothing like practical experience in this sort of thing.

Thanks for the advice. MX Player worked a treat. No need for conversion or anything.

    Thanks again.

Every now and again a blind squirrel finds a nut!

Must be either MX added a codec, or the iPhone 5 uses a different format from the iPhone 4. I never tried an iPhone 5 video, just a 4.
