Are you playing them from internal memory or from an sd card?

does the lagging/choppyness last (does it just happen during fast scenes and then a bit later it plays normal again), or it is consistent (if you watch the same movie again, does it lag in the same spot)?

i play from both internal memory and sd card and its the same and the lagging usually happens randomly they arent really fast scenes..........i think maybe i should just sell this tablet and buy the prime or better the ipad 2. I was completely happy with this tablet until this new update!!!!! >=(

it also does this with youtube videos.....the hd videos take longer to load (a lot of buffering) and get choppy/lag.

Did you change any of the developer options?
in there is a setting "force gpu rendering" which can affect playback.

For your HD video files, are you using the build-in video player or a market one such as Dice/MX?
Not all market players are optimized for ICS yet.

maybe you have some apps running in the background that are affecting performance. I know on my xoom when it checks for emails, I get a brief freeze during video playback. Things like Dropbox, or some live wallpapers can also be the culprit.
