Display subtitles on tv via HDMI?

    Hi,

I am playing a movie with subtitles without any problems on the prime using Soul Movie, but when I connect it to my tv via HDMI, the subtitles just won't display on the tv and stick on the prime's screen!

Is there any way to see the subtitles on tv also? One of the reasons I bought the TF201 was for HD movies on my tv, but since I am watching with subtitles everytime..

If anybody found a solution to this problem, let me know!

    Thanks!

I have the same problem watching Netflix via HDMI. I can turn on subititles, but they appear on the Prime and not the screen.

I can turn subtitles on using the Prime screen, and it is interesting that the problem is occuring with another app, I thought the problem was with Netflix.

Its an app issue , since it overlay the subtitle on the prime screen , but not on both. unless the video came embedded with the subtitle.

You can embedded it using hard coding method.

More information about the issue for developers: Subtitle

The subtitles are visible on the TV when I use Netflix on my Galaxy Tab 7, but it runs the Gingerbread OS.

So we're still left with question, is it the Transformer, the OS, or the App? Sorry.

I just used my Prime on my Family's 42" LCD using hdmi and the problem occurs with all tha video player I used. Subs keep appearing only on Prime! Does anyone have any update on the matter? Never had any issues with my Prime till now.

I just read a couple of things on xda developers. Apparently subs over hdmi are not yet supported by any hardware accelerated player. Meaning?? There are two options right now. One : download MX Player since its SW accelerated. Two : If you have BSplayer you can choose to use the SW since it is optional. I will go for two. I know its sucks but what the heck. Until a proper player comes out ( VLC please come and free us from our chains ) we must be flexible. :PPP

News flash. I just tried BSPlayer on the Prime with SW decoding and the subs appeared as expected. But then I noticed that there were 3 options to choose from. Besides SW and HW (from BSplayer) there was an option with HW (from device). I pressed that and tried again to play a video on my hdmi with subs. It worked!!! HW decoding and subs displaying on the TV. I will test it a bit more, especially since tomorrow is GOT day but I think its worth the try.

It was explained to me that SW was preferable to HW decoding, as SW mode helps the HW (GPU) decode a file so it doesn't have to do it through simple grunt work. Am I wrong? Is HW mode preferable

If your happy with the results you are getting, it doesn't matter.
If you want some of the features available with a player that supports SW mode, then use that.

But there is no really right choice, like I said if your happy with what you see now, then that's all you need.
