ASUS Transformer Pad K010 - TF0310C (Best Buy) - What's it equivalent to?

    Hi,

Purchased this tablet a year ago. Now, regardless which browser I use, it often abruptly faults, quits, returns to the tablet desktop. I think it's time to root this tablet.

All over the Internet, I see forums for models TF100, TF300, TF700, etc. But I've never seen this model mentioned TF0310C. Is anyone able to tell me which model this tablet emulates, and therefore which recoveries, ROMs, etc. could be flashed to this unit?

    It's running Android ver 4.4.2
    Kernel 3.10.20-g4068499 Thu Aug 27 2015
    Build: WW-2.2.33.144 044000219...etc.

    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the forum

If that's the problem, don't root. You shouldn't root a tablet or a phone because it's having a problem that may not be corrected after rooting, (or could get worse). Just do a factory reset.

    Welcome to the forum

You are getting your model numbers confused eg there is no TF100. There is an Android TF101 and a Windows T100.

As far as your device is concerned, again you have simply made an error in the digits. The K010 is not a TF0310C - there is no such device. It is a TF103C.

There is no need to root it or ROM it. Simply follow this thread [GUIDE] How to get to Recovery, clean the system cache etc on the TF103 and clean the system cache first.

If necessary do a Factory Reset.

I have moved your thread to the correct section for you - read up on what is possible and the various issues that your (very budget so don't expect too much) device has and then take it from there.

    All the best

    Janner43:

Try as I might, I'm just not seeing model "TF103C." Attached is an image of a scan of the back of the box the tablet came in.

At any rate, the issue I have with this device is the issue I've had since early-on last year soon after purchasing it: regardless the web browser I use - the native, Firefox, Dolphin, Opera or Opera Mini, after perhaps 20 minutes of use in general web surfing, the browser quits and throws me back to the tablet desktop. I've done factory resets as regards the issue with each browser I've attempted.

I can see now where you got the model number from - but I can assure you that the Asus K010 is supposed to be the TF103C. If you try a Google search for "Asus K010" you'll be able to demonstrate that to yourself.

I can only suppose that this might have been a "Best Buy Only" model variant. Sometimes big retailers negotiate a bulk purchase of a particular device from a manufacturer that has only one difference from the stock item & that is a model identification. Sometimes it can be as little as one letter. In this case it appears to be the addition of a zero and the transposition of two digits. They do this sort of deal to avoid having to price match with other stores or so they can offer the device at a price the manufacturer wouldn't otherwise be happy with, or to bundle it together with accessories. Or some other reason...

As far as your browser issue goes, crashing apps are not uncommon. This could be to do with Flash issues. It could be to do with the Intel chipset rather than an ARM chipset. But clearly it isn't going away with a Factiry Reset and so your options are very limited.

Other than trying a manual reflash of the stock firmware onto your device, you have no real options that I can think of... sorry I can't be of more help...

You might try going to settings for the tablet and under each app clearing the cache and data, then do a cold boot and see if that might help. As suggested, sometimes downloading and reinstalling the Operating System firmware helps...good luck.

Lack of the ability to price match gets my vote.

This is a big reason that the last place I shop for electronic devices is from Best Buy and I tend to purchase a lot of electronic devices. That and BB's awful return policy to encourage you to spend more for their service plan. I'm so thankful there is a Micro Center located in my area about a mile away from Best Buy. No silly Best Buy specific model numbers, lower prices, and available no questions asked affordable replacement plans.

Rooting is definitely not the solution. Factory soft and hard resets should be the 1st step if everything else has failed.
