Issue between physical and onscreen keyboard!

Hello all, apologies for moaning during my first post (though it's all I seem to do on forums these days!)

I bought the Transformer yesterday in a spur of the moment kind of thing. Anyway, I'm LOVING it Everything about it is simply marvellous. The build quality is above anything you find on most high-end laptops let alone tablets. Honeycomb is second to none as well in my opinion

But anyway yeah, on to my issue... The one and only gripe I have with my Transformer is the ASUS onscreen keyboard! I just don't like it... I much prefer the Android keyboard and I have been using it. My problem is, when I have been using the Android keyboard and go on to attach the physical keyboard dock, a few of the keys are altered! They display different characters on screen to those displayed on the keys e.g. the '@' key will display " and the '' will display '#'. This issue does not persist if I remain in ASUS keyboard mode throughout. ??? :S

Any ideas? I'd be very grateful if anyone could help me out!

    Cheers,

    Eddy

I think this has to do with Language settings.

Best I can say is to switch your keyboard. This is easy to do, any time you are in a text box and have more than one type of keyboard enabled a little keyboard icon appears to the left of the notification area. Tap this and you will get a selection for what keyboard to use. Change to ASUS Keyboard when using the physical, then change back when you use the virtual.

I think the issue is most of the virtual keyboards work with a default US layout, and when using a UK keyboard it can ack funky. I am assuming you are in the UK by the word Cheers.

Also, want to say welcome to the forum. I am sure you know, but check around the forum for hints, tips and tricks to get to know your TF. Ask if you get stuck on something. Lastly, be sure to enjoy this wonderful piece of kit!

Wow, that's a bit sucky! Thanks for the help though! I just don't think the Asus keyboard is too good :-(

I use the US version of the keyboard dock and the US layout of the Thumb Keyboard and have no mapping issues. You could check out the thumb keyboard if you are interested. It puts the letters on the sides of the tab, has arrow keys and most symbols are a long press away. It also does macros for email addresses, delete, home, end, copy, paste and the list goes on.

Annoying as this is, I found the solution to this mapping problem is to change the input method to "Asus Keyboard" whenever you dock the transformer. This will then use the UK mapping settings (or whatever language you initially set)

When you dock the transformer the onscreen keyboard is supressed but it does not change the input method. This is sloppy and means you need to change this bit manually each time but it's a workaround.

    Hope this helps
