Smashed TF101, black screen but is turned on. No visible damage to screen.

So my friend's son smashed her TF101 against the floor and now the tablet doesn't "work". There is no visible damage to the screen (no shatters or crackers) but the pressing the power button won't turn on the screen. The tablet is currently ON because my computer detects it when I connect it via USB (and I can see all the files). Again, the screen does not turn on. Is there any way to "force" the screen to turn on or something? I tried connecting via ADB but ADB says that no devices are found. I am pretty sure USB debugging is off and I know no way of turning it on, as the screen won't turn on. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum

I suspect that the drop has either loosened the screen cable or else completely broken the backlight. The only way to check is to dismantle the tf101 & check / remake all the relevant connections. You'll find various tear down guides here & on YouTube & on iFixIt.

To "see" what would be going on on the tf101 if the screen was live, you can connect to a TV or monitor via HDMI.

Hope that helps & all the best

Connecting it to a TV with HDMI works. I opened up the tablet and attempted to push the "golden connector" back in but it still doesn't work. How can I check the backlight?

I don't know to be honest - I think it will be an integrated part of the screen. If you have complete connections & the HDMI works, then I think you can say pretty reliably that the TF screen is toast.

To be honest, with the price of newer, faster units being so low - around $100-150 - I can't see that it would be worth spending any money on it as the battery is likely to be also nearing the end of its lifespan.

Sorry not to be of more help, all the best

    You pretty much did!
HDMI output works and you can navigate around the screen, opens apps etc? It means the digitizer still works but your LCD is dead. I've never had to do it, but I think to replace it is tricky...
    Good luck.

To check for dead screen or dead back light.

Shine a light on the screen if you can see the image = bad backlight, no image bad display.

With no image there could be other issues like the GPU chip or ?????????, who knows or sure.

Thank you all so much for the replies!
-Connecting the tablet to a TV via HDMI works. I can see the "desktop" and open apps just fine. Touch screen still works perfectly.
-I have opened the tablet and disconnected and reconnected the "golden connector". It didn't fix the problem.
-I took the tablet to a dark room and I think I saw something on the screen. What could this mean?
Currently I am considering the purchase of a new LCD, does anyone know where I can buy it?

See message #7 from helpifican.. find a flashlight. That way you can tell if it's a bad backlight, or a bad display.
