    Transformer battery life and WIFI

    Hi there,

I am new to the TF and I wonder about the battery life. I have WIFI enabled and i doesn't matter what I do, after about 5 hours the battery is down to 20%. When I look what consumes the battery Honeycomp always tells me that WLAN is > 50%.

Is this right? If so, is there a way to see what apps are using WLAN quite heavy? I can imagine the apps like Pulse or CNN with push notification can cause this. But how can I get details?

    Thanks,

    Nightchill

I am not sure how to see which apps are using the WLAN the most. What I do when I put my TF down for a while (hour or more) I switch on airplane mode just to save battery life. I surmise that it is google account sync (Talk and eMail) that are keeping it alive. Also, do you have skype installed? That by default keeps the WLAN alive. You can go into the Skype Preferences and uncheck the automatic login option and then when you go offline it will not automatically go back online.

Ok, I figured it out. I changed the settings of some apps with push updates / account sync, battery life is much better now. Anyone tried out Juice Defender, does it really improve battery life?

    Thank you for the hint

Hi! I'm having the samne problem, with a practically brand new TF, and I don't know what can be causing it. I have nearly run down the charge, and battery usage says that 82% has gone to WiFi. Screen is next, with 9%.

I have tried to look for apps which might be using data, but I don't know which could be the cause - I really haven't added many over the couple of days I've had the TF. Most of them don't have any way to adjust their data usage, and those that do are set to check in every half hour or so, which I wouldn't have thought would be a problem. On my phone, the power almost all goes to the screen, and I expected the same here.

Otherwise I love it, right enough, and the battery life seems okay in general - I just don't see why more than a fifth of it is going to the WiFi! Any advice would be gratefully received, at the moment my plan is to recharge it fully and then try to keep the WiFi off whenever I'm not actually using it and see what the battery life is like then.

Yeah, it's weird. It took about 21 hours to run down, according to the battery screen. That was with me docking and undocking it a few times, and running down both batteries to nothing, and included the overnight period of not using it at all. I can't figure out what could be using the wifi so much! I'll see what happens when I keep an eye on that...

IM apps like Talk, Skype and imo.im keep the WiFi on. Also, your google account if set to sync in the background will wake the connection to check for market updates, email, calendar updates, etc.

I like having background syncing, but I put my TF in airplane mode to save battery (mainly by using the app Auto Airplane Mode).

Go to settings > wifi > disconnect policy and select "when screen is turned off"

I'm trying it now, with the disconnect policy set to "when screen is turned off" and no IM apps logged in. Thanks for the help guys, I'll post back with results!
