[ SOLVED ] How do you reinstall firmware on TF101?

    Hello,
I have a TF101 and love it. It is not rooted. It is stock. I have done nothing to it that way. I have thought of rooting it but have not decided to go that root till I have a problem. Well now I do, but I figure to try and do what was suggested. When I use the stock browser or some others, it opens then closes and goes back to home screen. And some apps, it seems like ones that would use internet, but not sure that is 100%. I have found on here that some others had the same problem and the fix that worked most often is to reinstall the firmware. I know there is a place on Asus site to get the firmware. But I do not know how to install it. I have searched how to do it and did not find it. Or if I did I did not understand it. I AM TOTALLY IGNORANT ABOUT ANDROIDS AND HOW TO DO OTHER THAN BASIC STUFF. I am not yelling but making it stand out so you see this sentence. LOL. Can someone show me where this info is or tell me how to do it? Remember I am ignorant. Assume nothing. Here is the information from my tablet.

    Model: TF101
    Android version: 4.0.3
    Kernel version: 2.6.39.4 Android@Mars#1
    Build number: IML74K.US_epad-9.2.1.27-20120615

Any help would be appreciated. Sorry if this is somewhere I should have found it at. But I did search and look for it before I posted this. I tried.

    Thanks,

    Bill

Since you are running the latest firmware for this tablet, I would try some cleaning and/or a factory reset first. Android, like any other OS gums up over time and to reinstall everything fresh often breathes new life into it.
    1) Backup everything you care about to a microSD or your PC - just in case....
    2) Download and run CCleaner from the Playstore. It will remove a lot of stuff left behind from apps you don't use anymore
    3) If that does not improve your situation, you can perform a factory reset which will remove all user apps and settings. You'll find it in Settings > Backup & reset
    4) If that stil doesn't help and you want to go ahead with re-flashing the firmware, go to this site: http://www.service.asus.com/#!downloads/c1wax
Enter "Transformer" in the search box, then select your device.
Choose "Android" in the OS box and click on the + sign next to Firmware on the resulting page.
Download the firmware for your SKU. WW if you're in Europe, US if in North America.
Follow the instructions under the section "Boot loop/no boot" in this guide:
    http://www.transformerforums.com/for...bly-tf201.html
Read it carefully, ask about things you are not sure.
    Good luck.

I am sorry. I forgot to mention that I do run CCLeaner and did do a factory reset. Still not working properly. I will follow your instructions and see how it goes and report back how it went.

    Thank you,

    Bill

OK. Something is not right. I did it exactly like you told me to and in the guide and after I see the little android guy and the process bar it only stays on for a second at most then goes to the little android guy laying on his back and his stomic open lick a keyboard inside him and a red triangle with a ! inside the triangle. So their must be a problem with the file. Because I am doing exactly like it says. Unless I am confused about one thing. When it says in the guide to decompress the file. It means to extract all when I left click on the file I download. I googled decompress and that is what it said to do. Outside of that I can't think why it is not working. Any help?

    Thanks

The result for unzipping the downloaded file has to be another zip file. If you get a normal folder with a blob and meta-inf in it you extracted too far.
I'm not that familiar with the TF101 firmware. Please post the name of the file you downloaded and the name of the file you extracted before you renamed it.
Make sure file extensions in Windows Explorer are showing, meaning your text files would show as myfile.doc and the downloaded file's name shows as epad_update_launcher...something.zip.
Also check how you renamed the file. If Windows is adding file extensions automatically, you could end up with a file named xxx.zip.zip
Any of these would cause the update process to fail.
    Other common mistakes:
Don't put the file into any other folder on your microSD.
Did you ever format the microSD to a different file format? It has to be formatted FAT32 (that's the factory default).

    Downloaded files name: US_epaduser9_2_1_27UpdateLauncher.zip

    After extracting files name: US_epaduser9_2_1_27UpdateLauncher

I renamed it exactly like it said to in the guide. I copied and pasted it just be sure. E101_SDUPDATE.zip After I renamed it, windows did not change it. It is still like above.

I did not put the file in another file. It is in the root of the sd card.

I did format the sd card toFAT32.

    Thanks for the help.

IDK what you used to extract the file, but it failed.
The extracted file is named US_epad-user-9.2.1.27.zip . I just downloaded and extracted it to make sure.
Search for, download and install 7zip, a free Windows utility. Once installed it'll show in your right click menu. Use it to "extract here" and you should see the file I mentioned above.
Rename it and try again to flash that file from your microSD.

Well I did exactly what you said to do, inlcluding downloading 7zip. Did it just like you said. And I still get the exclamation point in the red triangle in the android dude. Any other ideas? Maybe it is time to root it and on a new rom.

    Thanks for your help.

    Bill
