Power button stays depressed, everything freezes

My power button stays depressed and does not respond. Then in a random email, everything totally froze. Even the clock stopped. Somehow by charging it overnight, function was restored. However, that day, the same freezing occurred. I charged it overnight again but no response--totally frozen and unresponsive.

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I just returned from a visit with preschool grandchildren (yes, I am over my head here) and discovered a few small dents on the same edge as the SD slot. I am not sure how long they have been here, but a cute 2 year old is suspect.

Please advise. I am going crazy....

Sorry to hear about your button problems! I'm just guessing, but I wonder if something happened to the power button spring? If it's still depressed, it might require opening and doing some detective work, either by you or a repair person. BTW - I've posted this suggestion several times, but I have been using an app called Screen Off and Lock for quite a while, it cuts power button usage in half!

Funny I just had a similar problem today, turned on the TF101 checked email and did a little browsing. Closed the browser and set it down picked it up and no response, I noticed the clock was off by about 20 minutes. I have been having power button not working issue for about two months so I could not turn it off to reboot. I took it all apart removed the small power botton vol board, sprayed the power & vol buttons with radio shack volume control cleaner and lubrication, so far so good.
If you are brave here is a video on how to teardown the TF101, if not maybe you have a freind that could help. It is Russian but the video is self explanatory. Good luck.

    Found a great teardown video

I entered "ifixit TF101" in Google Search and there are a number of links describing opening up the TF101. Ifixit carries a number of teardowns for Asus tablets.
