Won't boot unless plugged in to power source

My problem is not quite the same as several postings I have read. I purchased Transformer TF101 some time ago and gave to my granddaughter. It has worked without incident until recently when she dropped it. Now it will not boot unless connected to power source such as wall socket or USB to another computer. I have tried the following:
    1. hard reset (power button and -volume). I never see any wording on screen so not sure if it really reset
    2. depress power button for 20+ seconds, release for 5 seconds and depress again
    3. reset through small port on right side
    4. wipe and reset to "factory original"
I have checked that firmware is up to date.
Battery shows charge level at 100% although I have never seen any led light (not sure where it is but don't see anything in dark room)
Power button will turn machine off and turn on as long as powered from outside so I assume the button is working properly. Is it possible there is a connection between battery and power button that is open?
Once the machine is running I can disconnect the power source and it runs fine. There is no indication that the battery is no longer working properly.
    Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Forum a390st. You've come to the right place.

As per your request I have moved this to the TF101 Help section. Not sure if your "hard reset" was correct. Some use that term to describe what the Operating System calls a "
Cold Boot." They are the same.

I suggest you look at the
Master Help Guide link below in my signature and follow the Cold Boot procedure outlined there. You should see a small text upper left "...is Cold Booting..." or similar wording. It flashes by rather quickly.

Dropped Transformers have been known to encounter some problems. Start with that Cold Boot and report back.

There have been some issues with tablets that won't turn on without plugging in but the power button works normally to turn screen off and on. Most users have to have either the power daughter board replaced, or the main board. Most likely it is out of warranty.

I know a few users who just carry their USB cord for a power button. Works with a PC USB as well to turn it on.

If you want to cold boot, hold VOL DOWN when plugging it in to get to the cold boot menu.

Holding down the volume button while tablet powered up did bring up the cold boot menu. I selected the cold boot option. Machine still will not power up. Next option?
I will add that I am impressed with how fast and with how many responded.

So, it did not boot up after the cold boot? Is it stuck at the Asus loading screen?

If so, try just holding the power button for 10 seconds and it should do a normal reboot.

After cold boot nothing-same as before. Screen is black. Still comes on if I connect power just as before.
I have since removed the daughter board with on/off switch and volume buttons, and sprayed each with contact cleaner. I cannot figure out what the on/off switch does. When I check continuity through the switch it is open. If I push the switch until it clicks, it is closed. If I push it again it remains open. I can't figure out how it ever opens. Shouldn't it be "push to open/push to close"?
I have re-installed the daughter board but machine will not boot unless I connect power and only have to do that until Asus splash screen comes up. After that the machine seems to run properly. I can touch the power button and screen will go to sleep. Touch it again and it comes back on. I have the display set to never sleep. Some indication that switch is OK?
Does any of this suggest anything?

I would think it is open unless you push the button in. Never tested it.

I'm thinking it is probably a bad main board that is not recognizing the power on command.

I just had to look closer at the on/off switch and why I was getting confusing results. The connections are very small. (I would hate to have to remove and replace one of these switches.) But anyhow, the switch is double pole. There are two connections on each side of the switch and each pair is closed as long as the button is pushed in. Release the button and both poles open. Somewhere in the circuit is a timer such that a short term push of the button will put display to sleep. A push and hold will bring up the Shut down window.
I have convinced myself that the switch is working properly.

There is a posting on this website for using an Energizer XP18000 Portable battery for charging a Transformer: 18000 mah for the "User on the Go"
Couldn't I use this with the USB charger cable just to turn my machine on? My machine runs fine as soon as it powers up-takes just a few seconds of connecting the 40-pin connector from any power source.
Asus makes the "Connect Dock" for TF201, 300, and 700. Is there some reason why this cannot be used for TF101?
