OMG my tablet was stolen. What can I do?

    Hi,

I'm pretty sure I have seekdroid installed but the current location is my house. I think that means the thief hasn't turned it on yet.

I also faintly remember a similar service from ASUS but I can't find it now. How do I get into that service?

Is there any way to find my serial number from seekdroid or the ASUS locator?

Should I call the cops? Will it do any good?

    I'm frantic!

P.S. If I use seekdroid to lock the tablet will that prevent seekdroid from locating it?

P.P.S. How come the Information button on seekdroid doesn't do anything.
I do have breadcrumbs turned on but am not certain what it does. So far I've gotten no emails.

    Thanks

Someone will chime in about the Seek Droid and Asus locator, I'm not sure about those services, but where do you think it happened? I would definitely report it to the police, they may have tech locating capabilities!

Thanks for the feedback. It was stolen at my gym. I put it down next to the treadmill I was using and 10 minutes later it had vanished!

I'll call the police but can't find my serial number so I don't see how they can track it.

I figure they may have some sort of tacking device, similar to Asus Locator...it can't hurt, anyway! Even if you can figure out SeekDroid, etc., it may be nice to have them back you up...the guy who stole it in the gym might be on steroids!

Oh Mel - what a shame...

I'm with Neil - report it to the Police (& to your Gym) & keep checking on that SeekDroid service. I don't believe there is a stock Asus application installed, so that SeekDroid is going to be your best hope, I would say. If there is an Asus service then it would be accessible from the Asus VIP login (where you registered the product originally).

And there is a thought, because if you have registered your tf101 with Asus, they will have the serial number. You will also find it on your original packaging.

I went to ASUS Member Login but I don't have an account there. I remember some sort of tracking or identification service via ASUS which I registered with a few years ago. But I have no info on it and no recollection of it.

Does anyone remember such a service from ASUS?

Just reported to police. They're sending someone over; but I doubt it will help.

    Asus Device Tracker

This might be the service MelMartin is talking about:

Clearly what I am about to say next is just a guess, but if the person who stole your tablet has any brains at all, they may well simply Factory Reset the device from the hardware keys or Flash a different ROM before they turn it on (it may only be turned on for a few seconds).

If they do that, then the good news is your personal data will be safe. The bad news is your tracking service will get wiped too.

One thing you must do straight away is to change the passwords on your Google account & any & all email and/or other services you had loaded on your tf101. The faster you do it, the greater the likelihood of success, so my advice is to do that immediately with some urgency.

It's too late now, but you can't leave a tablet or cell phone or your wallet or cash laying around somewhere. Maybe others will learn from your bad experience.
