Question How do i close applications? :)

    Hi all,

Sorry for the dumb question but ... how do i close applications once open? (in general).

I know there is key/icon like a vertical U turn (or inverse C on the bottom left corner of the screen, but that only put them in background.

I downloaded the Adv Task Killer and i can see apps there, kill them, etc.. but im surprise there are no normal ways

Im sorry for the dumb question, i just cant find the way

You don't need to - Android manages them for you. Just use the "back" button and forget about them.

    Hi,

There is no need to close any apps in Android because it manages it's own memory and closes things only if it needs to, to allow space for newly opened app to run.

You can is you want to, kill apps with a task killer app, to close apps that may be causing high battery drain etc.

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards

    I got it,

Its more like me helping Android by killing what is consuming and will not use if i want to save battery, etc..

    Thank you both!

Do your self a favor an uninstall that task killer. It is not needed.

Revisiting Android Task Killers and Why You Still Don’t Need One

As was already stated Android does a fine job of freeing resources when needed. If for some reason you feel the need to close an app that isn't playing nice just go in an force close it.

Thanks G for not only reiterating that stopping apps is not necessary and the fact that Task killers are not necessary, and also sting a link for the OP in case he wants to pursue manually closing apps anyway.

I think it is important for us all to remember that 1 size doesn't always fit all and just because I may never see a need to close apps doesn't mean that everyone will feel the same way.

Very true - My wife is constantly closing out all apps she is not using on her iPad 2 just because it is an OCD thing that bugs her with extra items open. I tell her she is wasting her time, but it drives her crazy knowing they are open. Also she never has more than 2 programs open on her computer at a time either.

I had that same damn OCD bug when I got my OG Droid almost two years ago. No matter what I still felt the need to use ATK and close out all apps every time I was done using it. I finally stopped using ATK about the time I rooted and flashed my first custom ROM.

I stopped trying to help my wife setup her ipad 2 the way I thought it should be setup because she is obviously way different from me. When she gets stumped and needs help she comes to me and it keeps the peace.

Yeah, I pretty much did the same thing. I just let her be until she starts huffing and puffing about something then I ask her what the problem is. Then I hope she does not say "nothing" because that means trouble....and it has nothing to do with her iPad.
