Question Keyboard not working on dock - help please?

The dock keyboard on my TF101 hasn’t worked for months and I’d really like to try to fix it... It stopped working after an update of some kind - it may possibly have been the ICS update, or maybe a different update, I forget exactly which now - so the problem is pretty likely software/firmware rather than hardware.

It charges normally and the trackpad and buttons work fine, just none of the keys work.

I’ve recently done a hard factory reset data wipe for other reasons and it’s made no difference. I’m not sure if it’s relevant but the dock originally came from abroad and it has both English and small asian characters on the keys (the eBay seller I bought it from insisted in was a genuine Asus keyboard, just one bought from abroad as it was cheaper when the tf101 first came out).

    Anyone have any suggestions?

If you are willing to take it apart, check to make sure the ribbon cables are all attached properly. There is a ribbon cable for the touchpad, and one for the keyboard.

Thanks for the suggestion. I googled up instructions to take the dock apart and have done so but the two cables look to be connected fine and the keyboard still isn't working.

I suspect it's software or firmware caused anyway as it stopped working after an update, where it had been working fine previously.

    Any further suggestions?

The only other suggestion is to try the latest firmware update manually.

I think I may already have done that - I had problems with my Transformer not booting and I eventually fixed it by copying the firmware downloaded a few days ago from the Asus site onto the root directory of a microsd card and then this time the restore finally worked.

Perhaps I might have to wait till if/when Asus update TF101 to JellyBean and hope that might fix it? Otherwise might a custom ROM fix it instead? I'm not that keen on the idea of custom ROMs for the risk of messing something up and having worse security, but I might give it a go if it might fix the keyboard. Guess I could always un-root it back to stock afterwards anyway even if it didn't work?

I highly doubt a custom ROM will bring it back to life, but it may not hurt to try.

Have you tried the slate with another keyboard or vice versa. I did this in a local store, when I had problems. I had to reflash the dock separately to fix it.

Nope, I haven't tried it with a different keyboard/tablet. I don't have another one myself nor know anyone with one.

Perhaps I could try and find a retail store selling one here on the Gold Coast of Australia that would let me try the keyboard with it, but the store staff may not be keen to let me experiment and I'm not sure if they even sell the TF101 anymore in any case?

How did you reflash the dock separately?
